Help creating INI file.
« on: September 23, 2015, 07:54:26 pm »
Hello,

Getting back into MAME and am very rusty.  I am building a cocktail cab and am 95% done.  I have an old Dell Optiplex computer and only loading like 20-40 classic arcade games.  I have nearly completed the control panel with a SH usb trackball.  Computer recognizes it but mame does not.  So I go to tne MAME32 folder to open ini file and its not there.  I have an old version 32bit .144 nonag and hi score which works fine on a different computer.

I can open the command line and everything but when I get to the -cc or create config step I get a message on the next line that reads ""desktop\mame32-createconfig is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Can someone remind me or help me out here.  I am sure it is beyond simple...i just can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Matt

1. You need to be in the same folder as the executable when you enter the command.

2. There should be a space between the MAME executable filename (mame32.exe, right?) and "-cc".

Typing "mame32 -cc" into the command line while in the same folder as the executable should do the trick.   ;D

Thanks for the reply!  I am missing something simple here... And am stunned tnat I have been screwing with this for THREE hours now.  Should take 2 minutes.

Can you help me step by step... And its ok to talk to me like a 2nd grader because thats about how smart I feel.  I mean I have gotnmy Hyperspin working perfect...computer decased and mounted...cab put together and I can not get the damned trackball working.  Its Budweiser time!

Im not sure by what you mean... In the exe folder.  How do i get there from the black command prompt box??

Sorry...its been years since I played around with this...very much appreciated!

Here's the easiest way AFAIK:

1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to your MAME folder and find the "mame.exe" or "mame32.exe" file so you know what filename to use in step 4.

2. Shift + right-click on a blank part in the right-half Windows Explorer window -- not on a file or folder.

3. Select "Open command window here".

4. Type "mame -cc" or "mame32 -cc". (executable filename without the .exe plus the -cc)

Another quick way to do it is to create a shortcut of the MAME executable on your desktop by right clicking it.

Then right click on the shortcut, select properties and add -cc to the command line at the end. Click OK. Double-click the shortcut. Boom!

Then feel free to kill the shortcut.
