going back to finish up the mame, now working on booting to nice Mame skin

so after a while (1year) of leaving this project aside, i kinda want to finish it, it's like 99.999999 % complete...
so now every time the computer boots up i need to open the drawer, start mame, go WITH THE KEYBOARD lol... to the game i want... and open up the game... then close the drawer... and start up the game...
and half the games in my mame don't work anyway...

what i would want is to boot up the computer Directly to something like that >



to have my emulators ready then go inside an emulator, have a list of games, and pick a game... all with the joystick and buttons...

do you know where i can get one of this software ?
and then get good rooms for it ?

maybe where i can buy something like that that is all ready up ? or download for free if there is something like that for free ?

you need a front end. (Google it) the front end in that video is maximus arcade. that is the one I use. Everybody here has there personal favorite so there is no real answer to the best front end to use. Hyperspin, Mala, and Maximus arcade are pretty popular choices. you need to look up some front ends and decide which is best for you. Then Google some how to videos on configuring them.

now i can't discuss roms on here so that much will be up to you.

My personal "ah ha" moment was when I discovered gameex. Great front end on my opinion with the most features with easiest learning curve. As he said though there's no real answer. It's based on preference and computer specs. But the short answer to you is indeed, you need a "front end" software to run your emulators through.

Yes, the one pictured is Maximus Arcade with a custom skin.  It's $25 though and has ZERO support.  Hyperspin is popular but it DOES NOT support joysticks natively in the menu.  There are workarounds, but they are a pain.  Your best bet (for beginners) is to go with MGalaxy. (http://www.mgalaxy.com/).  Super easy to set up and looks slick.

Curious why you say this? I've set up Hyperspin a few times and it reads joystick input just fine. (Unless you are emphasizing natively) The only issue I had was getting it to properly recognize my U360 inputs... but I easy overcame that with Xpadder.

And I will agree, Hyperspin is not a good FE for impatient people but still the best looking FE in my opinion.

Feel free to click the links in vwalbridge's sig line to see if his perspective matches yours on what can be done with just a little patience.  My opinion is that it's not just a matter of patience with HS. Many people give up on HS after a legitimate patient attempt.

Attract Mode is another option for the OP.

so i didn't get it does it have problems or not ? didn't really understood that...

the maximus and the hyperspin both look nice... the hyperspin looks much better though... so if it can't be used with the emulator joystick and buttons that would be a drag ..

so just to see if i got t his true, it's a software, that i will put on my pc, and configure, and it will replace mame, and just know how to devide all my roms to the correct place.. ?

and there are costume skins i can download for each front end .. ?

it's really really really really complicated to get everything started... it's like 1 + hours just to feedle with all the prefrencess..

so i understood you need to know what roms are for what emulator, and then move thenm to the correct place and get a seperate software for every emulator...
so this is quit complicated lol .. but i'll try ...

just wish there was a software you could buy with lots of roms and all the emulators and all ready.. just pressing setup.. and that's it and your done...

Nothing replaces mame.   The software you need is pretty and just starts mame for you. The front end is like a hot weather girl.  Useless on her own, but pleasant to see when she tells us what the scientists figured out.

yeah so basically create an emulators folder. and inside make a folder for each emulator you are using. Then you will need to configure each individual emulator. make a Roma folder in each of your emulator folder. and folders for your screenshots or video clips. Then you can setup the front end. in maximus you just point it to the right folders.

Hyperspin works fine with joysticks. It's one of the most popular Front Ends out there so I'm pretty sure the Devs have it working with joysticks! LOL!

(Like I said, the only exception is the U360 Joystick...it is recognized by Windows as a game-pad so it interfaces differently with Hyperspin. What happens is when you attempt to move the game-selection-wheel, it just spins and never stops. However, this is easily overcome by simply using Xpadder. Xpadder will translate game-pad inputs to simple keyboard inputs. REALLY useful utility)

i t hink it's also a problem to find a good data base, and good roms that will work good with your data base...
wish i had just a few great roms and emulators... that would be amazing

You can even download an analog mapping and having the analog features of the stick for games / emulators requiring this.

I never considered that but it's not a bad idea. However, you just have to be OK with spening $60 on the U360 plus another $40 on the IPAC.
