Hello,
I'm having issues with both of my 2 Ultrastik 360's. I tried troubleshooted using this forum and I've had no luck yet. The problem is, whereas they both are plugged in and appear to work by moving inside of the box (utilizing UltraMap), they are not recognized by the software so I can't program them. When scanning, I get "Driver installed Ok, resetting devices". Then an error states "Re-initialing driver... No UltraStiks detected! Try clicking on 'Scan'." No matter what I try, I can't get UltraMap to see my U360's, even though (as I said earlier) when I move the joystick, it appears to move just fine inside of the box. Here's some info I can give you:

- Running Windows 7, 64bit on a Lenovo Thinkcentre M91.
- UltraMap v1.0.19, run as administrator
- Plugging one in or both in doesn't seem to make a difference. Both move inside the box but both are not recognized by UltraMap.
- The hardware ID's from each stick are PID_501 and PID_502.
- Tried going into Device Manager and uninstalling USB Composite Device for each sticks and rescanning. Installed correctly but same issue in UltraMap.
- Also tried going into Device Manager and uninstalling HID-Compliant Mouse and rescanning Installed correctly but same issue in UltraMap.
- Tried plugging directly into PC and also tried powered USB Hub.
- These were working at some point but I haven't used my arcade in a while. I decided to upgrade my Mame PC and went from XP to a freshly installed Win 7.
- I tried changing UltraMap compatibility to Windows XP, SP2.
- There are no errors or issues in my Device Manager for anything installed. All chipset drivers up to date.
- Rebooting the PC didn't help.
- In UltraMap under Tools, Options, I do have "Require UltraStik #1 (and #2) to be present."
- Both state "Not plugged in" even though I can move the + in the box.
- Both sticks have the green light on the bottom. Both flash when moving the stick.

I've contacted Andy at Ultimarc, but he's scratching his head too, stating,

I am not sure of the reason. The older version which you have requires a driver to be installed which happens on the fly but it seems for some reason it's not installing on your PC, even if you run as administrator. There might be additional permission issues on the PC preventing install.

The only solution I can thing of is if you can send the boards here I can reprogram them to the current spec which does not need a driver.

Andy

I prefer not to have to send them all the way to the UK. I don't know what shipping would be but I can imagine it's not cheap. lol

So here's a virtual beer for anyone to help me out with this.  Thanks in advance!!

  • Don't half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing.
To cut the problem in half, try using the sticks on another computer. See if the problem stays on your computer or follows the sticks.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Good point. I'll try that and report back. Unfortunately I don't have a laptop so I'll need to take them out of my CP so I can try on my PC upstairs...

I have exactly the same problem I wrote about in this thread: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,145768.msg1517969.html#msg1517969 At some point I gave up and didn't  try everything suggested so if you find a solution, please post what worked, don't just say everything is ok now. Thanks.

Welp, we got them working. Andy had emailed me and suggested trying the following and it worked! Here's exactly what I'd did:

Unplugged both of my sticks
Uninstalled UltraMap
Plugged in one stick only
Reinstalled UltraMap (freshly downloaded from site just to be "sure")
REBOOTED (note, I wasn't prompted to reboot, but Andy said to)
Opened UltraMap
Initially said device not plugged in. I did a scan and it found it. I am now able to program it!
Plugged in the other stick, rebooted (just because), opened UM and now the other stick works too.

Success! Andy, if you're reading this and I'm ever in the UK, I owe you a beer!
