« on: August 11, 2015, 10:46:50 am »
Ok i posted a youtube video of what my DK screen is doing..I have narrowed it down to the VR352 is the only one that does not adjust anything with the screen...I believe its the horizontal control...could anyone confirm this for me please. and also if this is the issue how to replace/fix it...thanks
not the best video in the world, had to be done with the laptop.

There are plenty of smart people here, but for arcade machine repair you might be better off to post at KLOV:
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/

Unfortunately, I'm just getting into repairing arcade machines, so I can't help you yet.

Sounds like that pot's wiper has failed then, and needs replacing. When the wiper fails, pots are normally connected so that they operate at full resistance, instead of going open circuit causing complete circuit failure.

If you went twiddling a bunch of knobs on this monitor, you may also wanna make sure your B+ is correctly adjusted at 108 volts to prevent future issues.

google sanyo 20ez B+ adjustment for the procedure

Yes, and DON'T kill yourself. If you're not sure what you're doing in there make adjustments with the power off.

Wicked. A small part of me is happy that another peice of history will not only be saved, but enjoyed the way it was meant to be. :)

...I mean, it's yours, hell, change your mind and put a four player CP on it and paint it neon orange with Final Fantasy characters for side art of you want (please don't). But I'm glad to see its going to be properly restored. :) Every one restored in a small makes up for the abomination I'm building.

Hey Brian12, looks like you took down your video before I can compare it.

I was having a problem with my DK Junior's monitor a little while back. I haven't got to the bottom of it yet since I threw it into storage, but I was wondering if you can take a look at this video and tell me if it's the same issue you were having:

Yes, that was exactly what mine was doing... H-Hold VR451 thats on the board mounted under the monitor is what I turned with my GF watching the screen and it fixed it...then I did what they said to check the 108v and it was correct also...the little white knob with slit in the top for a flat head screw driver

oddly enough, people will pay whatever you price it at.

take a look on eBay and see what i mean. like $1500-$1800 in some cases. it just depends on what you realistically want to get for it, vs your costs. the higher you price it, unless you get lucky and a buyer likes what he sees, then be prepared to sit on it until that buyer comes along.

my advice, TAKE GOOD PICTURES. take a ton of quality pictures with a good camera and good lighting in a good location and stand out from the rest. make the craigslist or ebay post as informative as you can. even if you set a higher price it will install more confidence in the buyer, and make the customer buying decision that much more easy so you get your sale (can you tell i work in eCommerce Marketing? haha).

I take back my previous comment, I actually kinda like this guy's energy. The first intro part was a bit too intense but as the video went on, I started to enjoy his enthusiasm and his confidence in speaking. You can tell the guy's really passionate about this stuff.
Plus, I dig that he fast-forwards the mundane stuff.

Nope.

Whenever I come into problems with boards/monitors I tackle the repairs the old fashioned way, by looking at schematics, following flowcharts (like the one you posted), and start with the basic things to look at like checking voltages, logic probing, etc. Failing that, I then contact my homies here and on KLOV for advice.  I really don't need youtube videos to show me how to solder/de-solder a cap onto a PCB, and even this video has a lot of basic stuff that I just gloss over.

In the case of my Donkey Kong Junior problems, I bought the cabinet in 2009, for a wicked price of $125 USD, (the greatest arcade deal I've had in my entire lifetime) down in Southern California while I was visiting my in-laws.
The cabinet had a Double DK board installed, is in great physical shape, but had this problem with the monitor.  At the time I only had a week while I was there to look at the problem, and after doing the basic due-diligence, I decided to just shotgun the caps and hope that it fixed the problem.
Failing that, I haven't had a chance to really dive-in and look at it again since I don't live there and when I am there visiting my time is spent hanging out with the family.  I wasn't going to pay the crazy shipping rates to bring it up here, so I decided to let my brother-in-law hang onto it and put it into storage for the eventual day that my wife and I decide to move down there to live.
