size difference between happ and IL?

Hey guys.. So im working on my new cp. I havent ordered my new IL Competition sticks since im not sure what color im going to want, but i would like to go a head and continue routing and drilled my cp. Im working with a 3/4" plywood. Ive always made the mistake of top mounting my joys, which means hell to replace them with removing lexan, buttons etc.. Someone told me that they screwed their IL Comps right into the bottom of their cp, no routing, and it fit fine. Any advice on that? and if not, i have an old happ ultimate or competition.. Does anyone know if the square frame of these joys are all the same? Id like to do the routing today, but only have my old happs.. can i just use the old happ as a template or should i wait for the real IL joys?

The Happ and il sticks work fine for bottom mounting in 3/4.
If you're installing acrylic over it and prefer the stick sitting a little higher, you can route out 1/4" or underneath.

Both happ and il have the same bolt pattern.
The il euro stick base is 3.6" x 3.15" where the happ comp is 3.59" x 3.08"

so a few questions, and im sorry if they are stupid or im missing something. First off, ill be ordering new IL joysticks soon.. BUT, for now, heres my question. First i have 3 joysticks. over the years i bought several different happs for different builds. I have no idea which ones they are or where they are from, but all 3 are different sizes lol. Anyways with that being said, i chose the longest shaft, and to see how it would look bottom mounted, i set it up. From what i see, the joystick is wayyyy to low for being bottom mounted with no routing.. So my question is, what am i missing? I have no problem routing it out a bit, but why do some people say i can just bottom mount it as is? Ive included pics of the 3 joysticks, as well as the joy in the cp. Again, i will just route it to my liking, But am i missing something?

That looks to be a comp.
I have bottom mounted them in 3/4 in the past with no routing and no issue.

Are you using the outer most clip ring?

i dont even have the clip ring on.. Im holding it in place just to see, and even then, im holding it at like, its highest lol, even higher than it would be with the clip. That round long shaped piece that goes around the shaft is installed on the top side inside the hole.. It seems that either way i do it, its going to be exceptionally short? Any suggestion on the different joys? Its hard to pinpoint where they came from. I did a few builds over a few years. Im 99% sure they were all happs, either comps or ults... i just cant remember where i ordered them. Most likely ebay, with one order straight from suzo happ? One of them might even be from a 4 way i had that came broken. But yea, theres where im at lol. Ill route it, but ill be damn happy if i was able to just screw them in.
