Marquee monitor possibilities
« on: August 06, 2015, 01:50:36 am »
3/4 of the way through my build and read some posts about using a marquee monitor.  I'm building a custom cab and could mount a 24" monitor in the marquee space and have the monitor hang down and only use the top part.  I will read all the how to stuff but if someone can just confirm what I want is possible it will save time chasing something that doesn't exist.
The idea would be to have a marquee for the cabinet itself on this second screen, either a static graphic or movie, running all the time except when I start a game, then it would switch to the game marquee with possible control info on the sides.  When I exit the game it goes back to the cabinet marquee.  If that's possible I'll start researching.

Thanks much.

I just did this using Hyperspin and Hypermarquee.  So far I have it working for MAME, I used amodified AHK script that launches Hypermarquee when a game is launched.  Hypermarquee grabs the artwork and displays it on a window covering my second monitor then closes when the game exits.  I'm using my marquee artwork as the desktop background so it gets displayed when not covered by a window.  Now I just need to add scripts for my other emulators.

Yep. Possible. Working on an extension to CPWizBiz at the moment to display dynamically generated marquees. Technically speaking, you could use CPWizBiz to do the dual marquee/controls on one screen, but new version will have separate editors (so Marquee not dependent upon CPWizard).

Good to see another multi-monitor setup.

Thanks Stig, I think this will become quite popular.  My marquee area doesn't stick out like a Defender, more like a Tempest so I'm going to mount a 24" monitor and just use the top third of the screen.  The idea of having marquees and controls on the marquee monitor is exciting.  It would really be slick to have a video for the cabinet marquee too instead of a fixed graphic.  Was looking around and VLC seems to have a video wallpaper support feature in which you might be able to select a monitor.  I'm going to try and set a video wallpaper there and then have MALA/MAME load a marquee when a game starts, then return to the video wallpaper on game exit.  Keep me posted and thanks again.

The marquee display part will let you set intro videos and also dynamic local or YouTube videos looped or single run. Also includes dynamic or static images, scrolling text (for game. Bios), animated flash and gifs and lastly a text style editor for the main game title text (eg strokes, dropshadow, glow, image fills). Sadly, its taking a while to put together, but will be in the next release of cpwizbiz.
