Ultimarc Ultimate I/O Alternate Power ideas?
« on: August 01, 2015, 07:17:29 pm »
I had a computer die on me in my first build from several years ago and decided to upgrade it with a computer someone gave me.  I had already recycled the old one when I discovered I had an issue with power.  The problem is that it is a small computer with a power supply with only a few connectors.  I figured I could use a splitter I had and plug right in to my Ultimarc Ultimate I/O but all the connectors are for the newer sata power cables where the I/O uses 2 pins on a 4 pin molex.  There is the 2x2 cable free that is labeled 4+ so I don't know if any of those wires are appropriate.

Any ideas would be helpful.  Thanks.

IPAC Ultimate just needs 5v for the LED drivers.  It will run as a keyboard encoder with just the USB connected - so you only NEED the 5v if you have LED buttons/etc.

The 5v is just any red and black from the computer power supply.  You can either cut the molex off the cable provided with the IPAC and splice it in to any red/black, or find an old female molex and splice that in first to the power supply - then you don't have to do anything to the original cable.

I think he's looking for one of these:  http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Molex-Power-Adapter-SATAPOWADAP/dp/B00009YFTI/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1438519554&sr=8-5&keywords=sata+male+to+molex

This will plug into a sata connector from your power supply, then you plug in your current adapter for you Ultimarc Ultimate.

OK.  The original cable has two black wires so I'm not sure which one gets the red.   EDIT:never mind, just inspected an old splitter.  Red is on the outside, Black towards the middle.

Peabo, Wrong end...I'd need a female Molex end and would also need a splitter as there are no available extras.  Thanks though.
