Hanaho Hotrod ps/2 version help please!
« on: August 01, 2015, 10:21:24 am »
Hi,  I purchased one of these almost a decade ago I think, but never managed to connect it up to a pic as I didn't have one with a ps/2 port!

Recently, I bought a second hand pc with a ps/2 port and installed the Capcom games cd that came with the joystick.

Unfortunately the utility program that came on the disc for the joystick is not compatible with windows so I cannot access that (I get a message about 32bit and 64 bit versions and to contact the vendor).

I use a usb Bluetooth keyboard, so I plugged the ps/2 to ps/2 cable directly from the desktop to the 'computer' ps/2 port at the back of the joystick, but I don't think the pc detects it and hence, the stick seems to do nothing).

Is there a way to make this joystick work?

Any advice much appreciated!

You need to plug a wired keyboard into the passthrough port on the joystick in order for it to work. The utility CD doesn't matter, there aren't any drivers required for the stick to work as it's basically just a keyboard.

When I had a Hotrod, I "cheated" by taking a keyboard encoder out of an old keyboard and left it permanently plugged into the stick so that I didn't have to mess with the cabling every time I used it. Keep in mind that you cannot hot-swap PS/2 cables -- doing so can damage the motherboard.

Thank you!

Now all I need to do is find a wired keyboard!

Re: hot swapping, I have plugged the joystick in after the machine has been booted, so I hope I haven't already caused damage, but I won't do it again!
