Rowe CD100A amplifier 61024901 question

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the jukebox forums but am super stoked to get this Rowe CD-100A jukebox working again. Long story short there was a problem with the amp confirmed from a friend who had a CD100C that he tried his amp in and it worked 100%. I bought an amp of a jukebox parts dealer and I think it's out of a newer jukebox part #61024903 . The original is a rowe part # 61024901. I just put it in and I'm getting the same super static sound. I'm wondering if this amp is compatible and if I might need to do some mod's to it to make it work on my older jukebox? It looks the same except where on the original left side of it there was a connector labelled Phono cartridge and on this one it doesn't have that. And also the longer connector close to the heat sink has jumpers in different positions. The guy I bought it from is a trusted seller and said it was working so I'm sure it is. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hello Bay78,

Welcome to the forum.

You need to fit a jumper plug to the 3in pin connection for phono cartridge (this plug  has all the three pins shorted together).

On the 13 pin plug the jumpers should be in the standard format:-

Pin 1 to pin 3
Pin 2 to pin 7 (usually a blue wire)
Pin 5 to pin 9
Pin 6 to pin 8
 
If your jumper plug is not in the possition above then alter it to the above.

I figured out that on my original amp it was definitely the transistors (2N6287 & 2N6284) .  On the new amp that I bought however it was sold as working but it's not. I found that all 4 of those 2N6287 & 2N6284 (2 of each) are blown as well as the Tip 31 C on each of the channel smaller boards in the amp. The guy I bought it from is SUPER nice and apologetic and is sending me those missing parts as well as the 4 fuses that I blew testing that amp.  I have 2 working transistors one each of 2N6287 & 2N6284 so I tried them installed in one channel and played 15 songs and it worked fine on that side. Took amp out and swapped those transistors to the other side and tested it back in the jukebox and played 15 songs on that side without trouble. So I know for sure there isn't anything else wrong. I installed the connector shorting those pins on the phono cartridge but when I did that I noticed that the whole section of parts where the phono cartridge are missing. Will I need to get those parts or since I'm shorting those pins it's like I'm not using that section anyway and wouldn't need to populate that part of the board. Thanks for the help and I'll post when I get the transistors in and get them installed and have time to test the jukebox for a while.

if the parts are missing it's likely a later revision board that eliminated those parts. I wouldn't worry yourself with them in that case. the phono input was kept because the newer amp used in the CD machines could be used in the older record playing machines. to keep noise out of the system, you had to ground out the input if it wasn't being used.

once record popularity died out, the phono input was eliminated.
