  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
OK, so I've got groovymame running in my MK cabinet and for the most part I am happy with it.

The cab has a 15khz arcade monitor in it.

Is it worth taking the time to switch from the current avga3000 to an ati card running crt_emudriver?

What benefits is there to taking the time to do that? If it is worth doing I would probably pick up a new faster dual core machine to use with it so as not have to mess with the existing pc.

Yes, it's worth it. The ArcadeVGA doesn't even run most games at the proper refresh rate.

Well I'll probably do it then if for no other reason than the fact that my list of items I can screw around with in my spare time is kind of lacking at the moment.

I'm going to pick up an ATI Radeon HD 4870 tonight and will then hunt around for a half decent core2duo machine to throw it in.

When you say "most games" do you mean mainly MAME arcade roms? Or are you including games from other emulators in UME? Do you have any examples?

There is no need for this, the mismatch on almost all games is miniscule, for example the difference between 60Hz and 60.05 Hz and would not cause any difference in gameplay at all.

The game has to be run with the correct options to allow an exact refresh rate match of the game to the card:

mame <game> –video ddraw -switchres –nohwstretch –nothrottle –triplebuffer –nomultithreading

Yes. For bonus points, mod the BIOS using ATOM-15.
