Can any of the jamma boards boot to a specific game ?
« on: June 15, 2015, 08:28:47 am »
I've built a few myself but I don't have access to any of them to test it out.

If I disable all but 1 game, will it boot straight to that game?

For example, if I buy the 412-in-1 and enable only qbert, will the machine boot straight to qbert when I flip the switch?

Its ok if other things show on the screen first, as long as it boots to Albert on it's own.

I'd like to go the jamma route to repair some of these older boards I have. I plan to keep the old boards in the machine for legal reasons.

AFAIK they always boot to the menu, they aren't smart enough to realize there's only 1 game in the list.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

You might just be mentioning Q*Bert as an example, but if you were specifically doing Q*Bert, I'd use Jrok's board for that one.

I am pretty sure the 60 in 1 will boot directly to just one game, if you turn all the other games off. I tried this with Millipede but it still would not fix the issues booting directly to only that one game. Only Millipede would boot but it's still unplayable for me on the Multi for a few reasons.

412-in-1 ELF Board has a "Single Game Mode".  As mentioned the 60-in-1 will boot to a single game if it is the only one enabled.  I just verified that since I had one running on my bench.  It boots pretty fast with only one game enabled.

The XXX-in one boards tend to be a little on the pricy side. 2084 has made a whole bunch of dedicated builds using Raspberry Pi's and most load in to one game.

People have used lighter versions of linux to get quicker load times and better performance out of there R-pi's. If you feel so inclined you could try using the DietPi as your OS if you need more performance, but I think for the games your talking about standard Raspbian should be ok.

The pi can out put RGB over the IO pins but I don't know if any one has modified the signal to 15 khz. You could ask at the R-pi forums

I'm not saying these boards are better but they're not expensive. If you find the right supplier the 60 in 1 boards < $60 and 412 in 1 < $100.

I have some 60-in-1 and 19-in-1 boards occasionally setup as dedicated game board. As mentioned before, you disable all the other games.
In this mode it also boots much faster by the way.

I have no interest to use anything other than a standard run of the mill jamma mutli board.

I may at some point explore raspberry pi, but for now things are just too hectic to learn a whole new system.
