A fan, a pop, and the scary smell of ozone.
« on: June 10, 2015, 08:31:04 pm »
I have seven fans hooked up to my computer. I use the Phantek hub for most of them. I made the stupid mistake of plugging in the fan hub while the computer was on. I heard a pop, and saw a small puff of smoke come out of a silver box near the back of the mobo.

I removed the hub and turned off the comp. CHA_Fan1 was the one that popped. I tried one fan in the same port, and it works fine now. I then tried the hub in CHA-Fan3, and got my second pop. This time I plugged it in before powering on the comp. this means I shorted the hub, but my concern is the silver box with the smoke. Did I blow a fuse, or did I do some damage? The OS operates fine, and I tried the fans without the hub.

Anyone with a similar issue can chime in?

That silver box on the back. On the other side, it's where the input jacks are.
