Coin Door question
« on: June 09, 2015, 10:38:16 am »
Does anyone know anything about this coin door?

A local arcade repair guy has it, is asking $45 for it.

am I getting a fair deal, will this cause any issue with my OND inspired build?
I realize it is only a single coin entry, but most of the 2 player games we'll be playing are multiple coin dependent as opposed to coin slot dependent.

I'm a little concerned about the short posts to attach it to the cabinet, any suggestions on how to overcome that?

It's probably not the worst deal but keep in mind a few things:

1) you will need to strip it down and repaint if you want it pretty.
2) a coin door usually mounts with small clamps, not threaded post.
These posts may work and hopefully are at least an inch long or so but otherwise you probably extend them a number of different ways or even use a compatable bolt that will meet and thread to them. (I've seen this type of screw/bolt but am unsure of what it's called)

You can buy a brand new single slot coin door for $50 from here.

It doesn't come with a coin mech or micro switch but you can always get one cheap enough.
I wouldn't be surprised if the local operator doesn't include the coin mech anyway because they can always reuse them elsewhere

This is a really good answer.

He's going to include the coin mech and I would plan on doing a little refurb, clean it up, repaint, etc.

I'm in Canada, so one of the biggest issues is shipping costs, I am not in a rush for it, I'll think about it before i make my decision.
Thanks for the info!

That's a Pac-Man style Midway cocktail coin door. I wouldn't pay $45 for it unless I was restoring a Pac cocktail.

If you can't find anything locally or that will ship for that much, then yeah it is a good price I would say.
Is that $45 Merican or silly canadian money?

If the coin mech works, then really it is pretty simple to clean up.  Remove everything, wire brush it some, and rattle can it.

I've got him down to $30 Canadian including a new lock. Worst case, I'll try and repaint it and sell it.

Thanks for all your input.

Just some advice on refinishing the coin door:
Make sure you strip all components off and get it free of all dirt and any flaking paint.

I sprayed my coin door with Rustoleum hammered in order to get some of the texture but the color was not quite black enough so then after letting it fully cure, I then sprayed over it with Rustoleum satin black and I really like the finish

That is definitely a Midway coin door from a cocktail Pacman.

Nice coin door! It will be worth the trouble taking that apart and painting it pretty. Don't get lazy, get it all taken apart and clean, then paint. Then the question becomes..what paint? I love Rustoleum black Hammertone for coin doors myself...have fun!

I think I spent $40 for a used happs over under in perfect condition except a few missing screws that are not even really necessary. Got it off eBay.
