Problem with Hack of Steering Wheel
« on: June 07, 2015, 12:16:42 pm »
Does anyone know why happen in my hack of Steering wheel?:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xoXvNytdVo&feature=youtu.be

I have working perfectly the hack of Steering wheel using a L2M2 board but today I have tested and doens,t work does it,s see in the video.
Will be problem any component of L2M2 board is damaged or will be why the motor of steering wheel has let to works?

What do you think?

So the motor is only turning right...
Check the lights of the L2M2 - do the direction leds light up correctly?

If they to, your transistor for turning left might be bad (or that IC in front of it)

If NOT, either your Logitech Wheel does not send a correct signal (which would be rather bad), or you got a problem on your l2m2 input circuit
I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)

Hi SailorSat thanks by reply me.

Today I have tested the L2M2 board and when I switch on the pc at the beginning the leds of CCW appears switch on but then it switchs off.
Then I turn to the left the steering wheel and sound the noise the motor and works fine, but if I turn the steering wheel to the right,it switch on the led of CCW but no sound the motor.

Do you know now how can I solve it ?

So the L2M2 input (and the logitech) seem work fine.

A simple way would be to check the AC outputs of the L2M2 and the motor.

If you are scared of voltages, you might check the motor first - unplug the 3 ac wires and check them with a multimeter.
you should be able to measure from the "neutral" to the two live (CW/CCW) pins, but not between the two live pins itself.

If you cannot measure anything from neutral to one of the two live pins, you may have a broken motor.
If both measure fine, most likely there is something wrong on your l2m2 outputs.
I do all that stuff even without a Joystick ;)

To check the motor you refer to go these steps?

1º-I put the scale of Muiltimetro to 200 V in AC:

2º-Then I connect first the tester black tip to the wire neutral blue and the tester red tip to purple wire of CCW:

3º-After I connect first the tester black tip to the wire neutral blue and the tester red tip to brown wire of CW:

And has to give any measure in each measurement if not will be broken the motor of steering wheel

Is it correct like have I explained?

that should work, but use the ohm meter of your multimeter. - i don't know what values to expect though :)
do NOT power on like that.

In the brown wire there is 103V and in the purple wire nothing.
I go to change the triac U6,because can be that it,s damaged that triac.
What do you think?

So Blue -> Purple reads nothing? Hm... That doesn't look good.

Today I have changed the triac U6 and nothing.
The led CCW at the begining is switch on in the board when switch on the pc.
After it switch off when I turn the steering wheel a bit.

What I can do more to solve the issue?

I have tested changing the purple wire of CCW by the brown wire of CW and now works fine when I turn to the right but not when I turn to the left.
I go to last measure take the voltaje of CWW to Fase wire of the motor and CW to Fase wire of the motor,to know if gives any voltaje if not will be the motor damaged.

First - disconnect your L2M2. from the motor.

try connecting the neutral (blue) and the purple wire without the l2m2, then switch on your setup. the motor should start running for as long as it gets power.

if it does, power off everything again, change the purple with the brown wire and switch back on - the motor should run in the other direction.

if it does run in both directions this way, your motor is fine

---

keep the motor disconnected from the L2M2.

if you turn your wheel RIGHT, the CCW led should light up (trying to turn the wheel left).
now turn your wheel LEFT, the CW led should light up (trying to turn the wheel right).

I have tested like you said me and does the next:

-When I connect the blue wire to brown wire works all the time the motor.
-When I connect the blue wire to purple wire doens,t work the motor

In both cases the orange leds of L2M2 works fine when I turn to the right and to the left.

Then the motor is broken?

If I unmount the motor can you solve it or it,s very hard do it?

Also I have a complete Panel SEGA Model 1 of a Virtua Racing.
Can I change the motor of Sega Model 1 and put it in the Daytona steering wheel or it,s different that motor?

You might be able to find one at a hardware store, in the hardware section in the "misc" drawer.  You'd have to bring the other parts with you to make sure it fits.
