PacMAME Compatible Shader?
« on: May 31, 2015, 11:59:24 pm »
Hi Guys,

I'd love to get PacMAME working with a CRTesque shader. I believe HLSL/GLSL are out as it's too old to take advantage of the newer MAME goodies. However, are there any shader injectors that are compatible with PacMAME? Would it be possible to compile a RetroArch MAME core using the PacMAME source? I believe PacMAME uses DirectDraw, right? Anything possible?

Any help here would be amazing!!

 :dunno but PacMame sound interesting.

Love the idea customising PacMAN. Do you have a web site that you would recommend to learn more? Every thing I found googling is on the older side or dead. A few pages point to "http://www.mameworld.net/pacmame" I tried changing it to "http://www.mameworld.info/pacmame" but thats 404 as well.

I did find the emulator but with very no info on how to do the mods. Are the mods distributed as patches to the rome like SNES games so they can legally distributed? If so where can I find them and what Mame versions of the roms do I need for the patch.

Edit: Found TRCO a rome editor.  This is some old stuff.

I don't have any advice on getting a shader going for PacMame and I've kinda been out of what is going on with other emulators since the all the changes with the Mame/Mess consolidation. But, depending on your goal(s), you might want to look at a variant of mame like HBMame.

good luck!

Sadly, HBMAME can't handle the full PacMAME romset. Plus a lot of games have been drastically renamed since then, so it's really hard to rebuild using HBMAME.

What's in PacMAME specifically that you want?

I think Robert (?) is the maintainer of HBMame. If you are interested, you might try contacting him or posting in the HBMame sub-forum at MameWorld. He might be able to add what is missing as he seems pretty receptive to supporting roms that Mame does not.
