Pac-man CE DX+ Steam sale

Priced at $2.74 CAD for the True North Strong and Free, don't know what the price is for Amerrrrica' though.

I personally like regular Pac-man CE better, but for the price of this version you can't go wrong.

I have it.  Definitely worth it.

Pacman Museum is $5 through most sources today also.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/236470/
It includes regular CE as well as Battle Royale and the classic arcade games.
Only issue is that they don't play fullscreen (except for maybe CE going by the pictures).
The play screen is smaller than it could be and is surrounded by a bezel.
I'm on the fence about whether or not to pay $5 for it.
If Battle Royale played fullscreen, I'd paid full price for it when released.

Battle Royale is also quite annoying as far as mapping your controls.  Player 1 uses the keyboard or an Xbox 360 Controller.  Players 2-4 are required to use Xbox 360 controllers. Generic gamepads won't work for anyone. Keyboard commands won't work for the additional players.  There is no option to change this. The bezel and low resolution are annoying, but the complete lack of button mapping options will probably be a deal breaker for most around here.

You can certainly get creative and emulate an Xbox 360 controller as I had to do but you shouldn't have to jump through hoops to play a simple game like this.

Can battle royal play at 800x600 resolution?

IT runs at 1600x1200 so would think 800x600 would also work ( Just tested by resetting my res to 800x600 and it runs fine just with bars and small screen as mentioned and shown below ) but you wind up with a tiny screen as it is hard coded to widescreen 16:9 format so on 1600x1200 you get black bars top and bottom to make it display in 16:9 format and then it adds the hard coded bezel so ypu wind up with an even smaller game screen.

Here's a screen of it from my 1600x1200 resized to 800x600 - as you can see not much actual game screen after it resizes to 800x 450 and then displays the bezel area inside that !!

Super fun games but that bezel is just ridiculous and distracting.

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.

Yep thanks to those kind people who sell these controllers at garage sales.  Nothing better than having spares eh?

(regarding pacman museum)

Super fun games but that bezel is just ridiculous and distracting.

I finally got a chance to play it on my cab last night.
I'd never played pacman arrangement before.  It was fun and when I looked at the clock it was 12:30am all of a sudden.
The bezel on that particular game isn't too bad.

The one on battle royale is just ridiculous though.
When it first started up, I thought "this isn't going to be that bad! the play area is still fairly large on a 27" monitor".
Then the game started and there was another black border inside the bezel and then the area where it says "wait for next game" cuts into the play area.
Even on a 27" monitor it felt undersized.  It would be absolutely absurd on a small monitor.

It's a real shame because like you said, the games are fun.

Arrangement is on MAME as part of Namco Classics Vol. 2. if you want to play without the border.

Awesome!  I looked for it in MAME wondering how I overlooked it, then looked it up and saw it was a console/portable game.
I will be adding it to my main MAME gamelist.  Might even do a crazy save state loading script so it goes straight to arrangement.

Actually, I take that back.  It looks like the one on Pac-Man Museum is not the same as the arcade version.  It's very similar but the arcade one used a vertical screen so they likely remake it when they "ported" it to consoles.

I looked into the two different versions of Arrangement. I never actually played on the Steam collection since I assumed it was the same as the arcade.  The first thing I noticed on the Steam version was that I didn’t see any option for 2-player co-op.  That was one of the best aspects of the arcade version. The graphics are obviously updated.  The level themes are initially similar though the stage layouts are different. I’m assuming they redid everything since the PSP (where this version originated) had a widescreen display.  The  Steam/PSP version has some cool boss battles every few stages that weren’t in the arcade. It also adds a bunch of new play mechanics and some different level themes as you progress. Both versions are worth playing in my opinion.

I tried the PSP version on PPSSPP and it worked fine.  If you want to play this version without the bezel, you can try it this way. Of course, there was an option for 2 player co-op like the original arcade version.  I think this can technically be achieved on the emulator but I didn’t really look into it.  Either way, this is another strike against Namco Museum.  They easily could have included co-op on this version of Arrangement but making this a quality collection was obviously not a priority.
