light-up buttons to indicate available stations/buttons?
« on: May 16, 2015, 04:05:52 pm »
Currently making plans for a 4-player cabinet that will sometimes be used for games that support only 2 or 3 players, and a thought occurred to me:

Is it feasible to use light-up joystick buttons, and turn the lights off for unavailable stations (or buttons)?

I've made a small bartop cabinet before, but it didn't have any controllable lights, so I'm quite unclear on how/whether that works.  Thanks for any advice.

Cool!  Too bad it's (apparently) for Windows only.  But I'm not too worried about the software — I'm a programmer and can hack something out myself if it's possible at all.  And this clearly demonstrates that it is!  Neat!

Using RGB LEDs inside the buttons offers up some neat possibilities.  I could turn all the buttons the color of the player to indicate which character you're controlling.  Or I could color the buttons according to function... though that seems less useful, as it's possible with the games I'm considering to keep the function layout pretty much the same, so I may as well print that on the panel.

Anyway, thanks for pointing this out, and encouraging me to investigate further!

I use ledblinky with my light up buttons.
You can have it light how ever is needed per game.

If it won't work with your platform there may be other similar programs or like you said, you can roll your own.
It doesn't have to be too complicated if your just looking to light certain buttons
