  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hello all,

How is everyone :)

My arcade machine is running well (MK1), it has a new screen in it (LG TV put in here).

Works and looks great, but I turned it on (must have bang it or something) and the screen was fuzzy and funk'o.

Like the H-Sync was out (pic attached).

A few power cycles later, no fix... Decided to try the fonz move and bang the side of the arcade.

This fixed the screen.

Bad part - bang again and its out!

What could be causing this?
I'd like to try and fix this up permanently.

I'm installing a PC with (mame) MALA FE.

hmmm.. cant upload an image...

I'll be back!  :dunno

Picture!

Usually it's due to something loose like a cold solder joint on the chassis board.

that or just check the video wire to the monitor, make sure the wire for sync is firmly inside the connector
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Thank you all! :)
I'll roll it out tonight and check wires and joins.

This Cap kit... Could someone explain this?

I have done many cap kits on old Sega Gamegear handheld consoles, and always worked great - They usually have dull/close to dead screens or no sound.

On the arcade, my screen is perfect - this is the first issue I saw, so if anyone can supply some info on  this cap kit, I think it may be beneficial to replace them anyhow.
It's a new screen, but all components are original 1992 - So I'm assuming all caps are leaky old electrolytics.

Thank you all again. Good advice.

I think pbj may have been trying to make a funny by saying cap kit
There was a period where many people seemed to be on a cap kit frenzy.
So every problem that someone had with a monitor, there would be a lot of guys saying to do a cap kit. It didn't much matter if the monitor problem was no power or screenburn. They'd say " time for a cap kit"

Not sure if I missed it, is this a regular arcade crt monitor or an lcd.
On a standard crt going blurry, I'd possibly be looking at either a flyback issue or in the case of it clearing up with a slap, maybe the focus wire is a bit loose. The focus wire goes from the flyback to the neck board along side the tube socket.
But of course, it very well could be something as simple as a loose video cable although many times that would get worse with a slap because it would tend to come out further.

  • No. It's your top score on Pole Position.

Did you try jumping over it like a shark?

If I had moves like the Fonz, I'd be snapping my fingers to get the bitches out of the woodwork myself.
