at a crossroads....need help
« on: December 28, 2003, 07:21:20 pm »
okay, im wanting to build a new cab as some of you know.  but i cant seem to sell mine at the moment for the price i want.  so i was thinking that since i cant sell it for as much as i want to cover the costs of the new one, you think it will be cheaper to build the new one, then take out joysticks and buttons and the computer and the marquee from the old one, and just kinda transfer it to the new and leave the shell?  granted i will lose money, but its almost just as expensive to buy all that crap all over again.  what do you guys think?

IMHO -

Recycle the hardware you have now for the new cab.  When the cab you have is totally stripped of items you want to keep, offer the cab on BYOAC for free.  Although you paid a pretty penny for the cab in the first place, at this point it would be about worthless when stripped.  Never hurts to do a good deed for others as you will no doubt see a return on  your investment.

Much smarter to reuse your goods as you will not only have to buy everythingagain, but think of all the shipping!  Good luck.

Oh, BTW: Next time you have a working monitor you want to toss,  please call me...:)

Put anything you want to sell on eBay. On eBay, everything  gets so much exposure! You could sell a Catsup popscicle and get 20 bidders in a bidding war!

-Good Pictures
-Good title so it shows up in searches

You'll get your money. There are so many folks out there wanting to "Build one of those easy MAME machines", it'll sell like gangbusters!

I've got 3 360 interfaces that screw onto the back of joysticks, you want them?
PM me.

start the bidding at 500, set the reserve at 700 or whatever you are hoping to get and then let it ride.  It will cost you a few bucks to list but considering the exposure, it is money well spent.  And like others have noted, even if it doesn't sell there (because people need some mame education or whatever) people will contact you and buy it outside of the ebay forum.  If the person is picking it up its a very safe transaction--just like selling something in the classifieds.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

Start it off at $700.  Reserves suck, and if it doesn't meet reserve it's a PITA for those involved in the auction.

There was an SNES I was bidding on a while back.  It had a reserve of $35, and bidding started off at $1.00.  I put in my max bid ($40) and the bidding went to $2.00.  Two more people bid on it, and it finally went up to a whopping $4.00, despite the fact that I put a max of $40 in.)

Include pictures.  Clear, well defined pictures.  Describe TO A T what the cabinet looks like, what is in it, etc etc.  Do a table layout in an HTML program first.  Make it look nice.  It's a high ticket item, and you want a buyer.
