  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi guys, first post and in the middle of building a Mame cab. Im very new to the hobbie so I'd appreciate if people can take it easy haha. Greeting to all.

I have purchased a multi arcade that is wired with a Jamma harness for controls and I'v been told I need to buy the JPAC from Ultimarc which is fair enough. The monitor installed in the cabinet is an LCD.

I want to mame the cabinet also and add my own games. The PC i have just had built needs to output via the DVI output on the back of the PC because I have purchased the gforce gtx 750 ti which was installed in the build. It states in the PC instructions I have to use the DVI output for video.

My question is would it be fine to use a DVI to VGA adapter out of the PC and then use the VGA into the JPAC. Im a little confused with the process and looking to learn.

Would this cause problems? I just need to know if this would affect the JPAC in anyway before I make the purchase.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Malenko

if the monitor is a regular LCD monitor, just run the output from the computer to the LCD.

You can use the JPAC for controls and not video, or just wire the controls into an IPAC instead
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Malenko,

That's brilliant, thanks for clearing that up for me, yes it's just a normal LCD screen with a VGA port or DVI. I had no idea I could just run the PC video straight to the LCD monitor. I was under the impression the video had to go through the JPAC also.

I think the Jpac just connects via USB to the PC so that shouldn't be too difficult for me to get on with.

people use a JPAC to feed an arcade monitor a 15Hz signal from a PC

Yeah I'v since found that out, I guess it will still work for me with what I want from the cabinet, the controls should be fine they are all wired up I just need the Jpac. Im not too concerned about CRT monitors etc.. Im not that far into the hobbie or a purist as such. Aslong as I can get my games from mame and emulators that's all I really care about for the time being. Im sure I'll be happy with the graphics from the LCD monitor.

My next task is how to wire the LED strip in the marquee, think I'v read somewhere it can be attached to the PC. And also hide windows.
