any rec on what type of plexi to order from tapp.com
« on: April 28, 2015, 05:18:14 pm »
I'm looking to put a shiny or matt black opaque piece of plexi for the top of my control panel.

Any advice on what to get?  Should it be matt or glossy?

Will the plexi hold up to use and will be black show off scratches more?

I'm also going to order the smoke transparent plexi that Green vigolix used...which I think looks great.

Sorry to ask so many questions.

You'll probably want to get the Acrylic AR sheet (use AR1 not AR2 - AR1 has the coating on one side only.  AR2 does has both, but you'll only need 1 side).  It resists scratches.  I would spray paint it using gloss black from underneath on the non-coated side.  That would leave an awesome shine from the other side giving the illusion that it's black with a clear coat.  Should look great and it will be scratch resistant and durable.

For the tinted plexi, you'll want to get the following specs:

Edit:  I also wanted to point out that you can buy a sample for $2.00 (4" x 4" at 1/8" thick which is the thickness that you need).  You can then spray paint it and see how it looks before you commit to buying a bigger piece.

Hope this helps!
