Rowe r85 jukebox question

Can anyone advise me how to remove the record magazine. I need to send the entire mechanism unit to another state for repair. Removing this magazine would make shipping it alot easier.

Hi Larry,

First of all remove all of the records, use the service switch in service and press the reject/cancel button near the tone arm to scan the mechanism around.

Switch off the service switch and put an elastic band over the tone arm to hold it down in place.

Remove the P205 molex plug from the mechanism control unit (pull on the plastic plug not the wires).

Remove the Molex plug that goes into the socket on the on the lefthand side of the mechanism frame (when looking from the front of the jukebox).

Remove the phono cable that goes into the 4 pin connector again on the lefthand side of the mechanism near to the tone arm.

Remove the tiedown bolts if still fitted.

Lift the mechanism out of the front of the jukebox.

If you are transporting this yourself then place it in the front passanger seat of your car with the seat belt over the turntable but under the tone arm, the mechanism will travel in safety to its destination.

If boxing up, put the mechanism into a large bin bag and seal it. place it into the bottom of a large box with a few layers of bubble wrap on the bottom to cushion the mechanism.
Fill the box with polystyrene packing pieces so the mechanism is fully protected, mark with this way signs and insure well.

Thank you Alan. You are a gentleman and a scholar. You explained how to remove the entire mechanism assembly. However, I had already done that. What I really needed was an explanation on how to remove just the magazine which holds the records. I am planning on sending the entire mech. assembly to Mr. Wentworth and I thought that by removing the magazine, it would make it easier to pack the unit in question. IF you believe that I should NOT remove the magazine, and instead send it all to Bruce as is, with the magazine still in tact, I will take your advice and do that.
 I somehow got my right hand caught between the tone arm and magazine arm while it was in play. This screwed up the entire mechanism. I believe that this unfortunate mistake caused the mag. arm to break, the cam motor to burn up, and several gears to become stripped. Perhaps, a very expensive mistake on my part.
Looking forward to your response, and again I am very grateful for your help.

Hi Lary,

My advice would be to send it complete, if you removed it you would have to set it up again so that the gripper bow aglinment is correct, between the seperator wires, you would have to adjust the opto switch, which you would had to remove. Its not a hard job but I can not see the point, if I was in Bruces place I would insist on a full mechanism so I could say that everything was correct at the time of completing the repairs.

Also if I was bruce I would also be asking you for the CCC and the Pricing Board so Icould fully testit on my rig.

Alan, that is exactly what he did. Thank you for your expertise. Can I ask you one other question? When the jukebox is on, are the 3 LED lights on the main power supply supposed to be lit or unlit? (+8, 28, +28 )

Hi Larry,

Yes they are, which of your led's is out

8 volts DC
28 volts DC
28 volts AC

With a volt meter you need to check out the voltages at the 9 pin molex plug.

Pin outs as follows:-

Pin 1 Red +28 volts dc
Pin 2 Yellow 28 volts ac
Pin 3 Black  Power Common
Pin 4 White/Brown +8 volts dc
Pin 5 White/Brown +8 volts dc
Pin 6 Black/White Logic Common
Pin 7 Yellow 28 volts ac
Pin 8 Black  Power Common
Pin 9 Yellow/Green Fault Ground

A little story for you. About 15 years ago, when I was in the Air Guard, we had occasion to land on an A.F. Base in southern U.K. Myself and another Airman took a cab into town and it was unbelieveable. Cobblestone streets. Lamposts. A Bobby on each street. And the taverns were unbelievable. We landed at a karoake bar, the people were the friendliest ever, and I had the best time of my life. I would love to get back to that old town someday.

The 8VDC LED light is off on my panel.   There are two 250A fuses underneath that keep blowing up when I turn on the power.  Does anyone know why the fuses keep going out?

Hi Dean,

Is it blowing the fuses when the Molex plug is removed from the power supply?

If it is only when the Molex plug is in place then you have a short on the service switch, mechanism or the boards.

If it still blows the fuses without the main loom attached to the Molex plug then there is a fault on the 8 volt circuit, you need to test the diode and zenor diodes.
