CP Layout
« on: December 27, 2003, 11:55:00 am »

First off, I'd like to say that this is probably the dumbest thread that I've started yet, but.......I'm posting it anyways.

Attached is my latest CP layout.

The most important classic games that I can think of, when it comes to the controls being in a specific layout, are Defender and Asteroids.

As a result, I've put together a quick draft of what I may do. I've kept my joys in line with each other, but the buttons are all over the place.

What do you think? Abolish this idea and keep the two sides symmetrical?

Yes, I know that it's a personal decision and that I should probably construct it to see if I like it, BUT this indecision is driving me crazy, and time is a luxury for me.  ;D Twin girls and a wife tend to do that to a guy.

Honestly, I think it looks kind of gawky.  More importantly, I think that it would FEEL gawky for any games other than Defender and Asteroids.  I'm doing this for my next CP - 1UP did something similar with his too - and I think it would make Defender and Asteroids pretty darn playable:

---left side buttons---
         move/  move/
         rotate  rotate
            left    right
  O        O        O

  O        O        O
reverse

---right side buttons---
          thrust    fire
  O        O        O

  O        O        O
hyper-  smart
space/    bomb
shield
