BYOAC 2016 AchievementsShort Version: Do Cool Stuff, Earn Stickers
Long Version: The reason I started doing the BYOAC meetups and t-shirts and stuff last year is because I envied seeing the meetups and gatherings on other arcade websites. Brother Frizzlefried's site in particular showcases lots of Arcade Meetups at shows like CAX, and on KLOV there's always Brofest and Grinkers. So I really wanted to make ZapCon BYOAC's own. I'm a collector, sure, but I've never forsaken my MAME roots. Heck, I like you guys. We're a creative bunch. Last year I was happy to get 7 guys together - I'm completely chuffed we've doubled that number.
One thing I though was cool, especially on Frizz's site, is that they give out a lot of virtual badges for stuff. A lot of them are centered around things at shows like CAX. Take a photo with a certain showgoer and earn a badge. Do something to a game, get a badge, and so on. Since BYOAC doesn't do virtual badges, I thought the next best thing would be actual badges, in this case represented by stickers. So here's how it works.
I've devised 22 different badges for this year's ZapCon. Some of them you earn just by showing up, others require you to do something. It's totally optional, no one has to do anything, but you can play along as you like. To earn them, you need to meet the requirements. You meet the requirement, I give you a sticker for the back of your ID badge. That's what the grid on the back is for. There is enough room for 15 stickers, which should be enough. This ain't Xbox - you can't get 100% perfect achievement because everyone's situation is different.
Without further ado, here are the 2016 Achievement Badges. Explanations below:
1. ZapCon Virgin
Aww, you always remember your first time. I think I was the only BYOACer there that I knew at the first one.
2. BYO High Score.
This was taken from Frizz's site, so credit where credit is due. Get a high score on a machine, and enter BYO as your initials. Let's flood the high score boards with BYO (short for you know what).
3. 2016 Group Photo
We're doing the group photo at High Noon on Saturday, so be there! Anyone in the photo gets this badge.
4. Real Men Wear Jorts
Wear a pair of jorts during ZapCon weekend. And no, they don't have the be the VJwalbridge cutoff jorts. The manly John Cena regular jorts will do just fine.
5. You Crazy Old Coot
Thank you for your service. Anyone who's been a BYOAC member for over 5 years and goes to ZapCon is entitled to this badge.
6. Meetup '16
Attend the Friday Night Monastery/StarFighters Arcade meetup the night before ZapCon. It'll be a blast. Burgers, beer, and bideo gamez! Whoo! Also, I'm handing out swag that night, so you want to be there if you ordered a shirt. I also invite the Phoenix Locals, so you might get to meet some guys you've heard of on KLOV.
7. Comin' On A Jet Plane
Anyone attending ZapCon from out of state gets this badge. And yes, driving here is quite alright as well. As long as you're not from AZ.
8. Broll Your Own
The Monastery actually has grills outside and will let you cook your own burger, which I get a kick out of doing. So if you grill your own burger, you can earn this badge.
9. Cosplay Capers
A few of the vendors have costumed characters, some even have booth babes. This is a photo of my buddy Jawhn (remember that name) and a video game princess taken last year. Take a photo with a character and post it in the ZapCon 16 thread as proof to get this badge.
10. Oh Kaneda! We Stand Cross-Legged For Thee!
Release your inner Chris Koolirus and sport those white flip flops at ZapCon. Pair them with your jorts for maximum style. Earn the badge and my dying respect. Unless you're actually Kaneda. ---fudgesicle--- that guy.
11. The Vulcan Brothers
If you get it, you get it. If you don't, you don't. Any questions?

You went to the first ZapCon in 2013
13. ZapCon 2 Attendee
You went to the second ZapCon in 2014
14. ZapCon 3.0 Attendee
You went to the third ZapCon last year
15. All You ZapCons Are Belong To Us
You've been to every ZapCon. Note if you've been to 1, 2, and 3, you get this one instead 12, 13, and 14. This one is more valuable, like Bitcoin and ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.
16. Oh Janky Kong!
Take a photo with the 2016 UCA Nominee Janky Kong Cabinet. Post the photo in the thread for proof.
17. Jawhn!
All arcade collecting roads in Phoenix lead to Jawhn. Jawhn is the alpha and the omega of arcade collecting in the Valley of the Sun. He's also the creator of Easy Coin Up, which you'll see in use at ZapCon. He's a nice guy. Take a photo with him and post it in the thread. You'll love Jawhn.
18. HaRuMaN's Customs
Take a photo in front of our very own HaRuMaN's booth at ZapCon. You can also earn this by sleeping on his couch.
19. Inspected by PBJ
Take a photo of a hot girl playing a game. But please ask her first, unless you want to go full PBJ.
20. Casa de Yotsuya
Visit my gameroom during ZapCon. Only a few of you will be able to do this, because a) I'm going to be at ZapCon 95% of the time that weekend and b) my wife doesn't want you internet weirdos around. I figure only 4 of you will earn this one, and it'll be the guys I pick up at the airport. And don't forget the yayo, mang.
21. Mmmmmm.....Beer
The weekend is all about feeling good. Treat someone from our crew to a tall cold one. If you or they don't drink, a soda or ice tea is just fine. But be ---smurfing--- nice to each other.
22. Stop! TacoTime
Last year, I ran into TacoTownCharlie at ZapCon. I was hoping he'd show up to our little gather this year, but alas....alas. So if you find him, take a photo with him, or better yet, bring him to me.
So there you do. Play if you want, or don't - it's up to you. But the main thing is to have fun. I'm psyched and looking forward to it. Only a month away!
