LED buttons and Joysticks with the IPAC ultimate I/O
« on: April 20, 2015, 11:33:34 pm »
New here so dont hesitate to correct me if im wrong on anything as any advice will be appreciated

Trying to design my first control panel as a hopeful start to my first arcade machine depending on how this goes

im currently looking at buy this kit of joysticks and buttons:
http://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/2-Illuminated-Joysticks-And-20-Illuminated-Arcade-Buttons-Kit.html

and of course the IPAC ultimate i/o interface:
http://www.ultimarc.com/ipacuio.html

Im just wondering if the IPac will be able to power and control the 12v leds that come with the kit im looking at? or will i have to look at some different 5v leds buttons and joysticks?
Also what kind of connection would i have to use for the LEDS on the board? im assuming i can purchase something like a harness to connet the LEDs into?

Also thought id chuck up my CP design for some info:

Welcome to the forum, hope you learn alot about this great hobby.

Trust me this forum will let you know how they truly feel in a heartbeat  ;)

No offense, but these parts are sub par in most of our opinions.  If you are going to get into the hobby and build a CP I would recommend getting good gear that will last (plenty of vendors here and lots of reviews so look for yourself).

Im just wondering if the IPac will be able to power and control the 12v leds that come with the kit im looking at? or will i have to look at some different 5v leds buttons and joysticks?

I'm kinda learning about this myself but believe you may need an external power supply for the 12v LED's (I.E. your PC).  Are you planning on swapping the LED's?  If not I don't think you would really need the I-PAC ULTIMATE I/O as it looks primarily designed for RGB LED setups.

The I-PAC Ultimate I/O will power 12V LEDs. You would need to move the positive pin on the Molex connector which plugs into a HDD power conn, so it it powered from 12 volts (yellow wire).

The board has 96 channels Our RGB LEDs are pre-wired but if using alternative controls we have connection wires in packs of 10.

Thanks for the reply Andy,

Ive decided to go with some different buttons anyway as ive looked around and found much nicer ones http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/buttons-il-industrias-lorenzo/809-il-psl-l-translucent-with-black-concave-plunger.html#/microswitch_force-50_gram_microswitch

Ive purchased these along with them http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led.html
