Artwork Printing Alternatives
« on: April 14, 2015, 05:08:59 pm »
Just seeing what alternatives people have used for having artwork printed. Obviously there's the big names like GoG, but what other clever solutions have you all used for printing marquees, side are, CP graphics etc?
Myself, I've been happy printing marquees at Walgreens.
I'm especially looking for cheap alternatives to side art for a small (physical as well as budget) project I hope to post soon, but figured this could be a great thread for alternatives of all sorts.

You could check with your local graphics or print shop. I believe there are people on here that offer printing services as well.

Unfortunately i don't have an answer to your question, but was wondering how you print marquees at walgreens? Like what are they printed on?

Thanks man, hope someone can help you

I used these guys for The Final Stage's marquee, and I wasn't disappointed.

I think they're a really good choice for artwork, generally. Control panel overlays are the only exception. For control panels, I think it's better to get something specifically made to last, like what Game On offers.

Thanks. I really appreciate the different links people are offering.
Along with that, I guess I'm curious if people have found other ideas for side/cp art beyond using a dedicated print shop...any outside of the box ideas?

And Joe, I've created the sized marquee I want, saved as a high quality jpg and take it in to Walgreens to print on their gloss poster material. A 20x30 poster is 23.99. Heck, I've actually added 3 different marquee designs to the same final jpg and had it printed. I can then swap out my marquee later if I want a change.  Walgreens was mentioned here a long time ago as an alternative and I really appreciated it....that's kind of what I'm looking for...alternatives that not everyone would think of.

There are a lot of printing alternatives I have come across.

You can print your own marquee by buying banner paper and changing your printers settings to work with longer paper.
You can also just print it on a couple pages and put them together(Looks like garbage though)
Have it printed at Staples or Kinko, probably cost you 6 bucks.
Then sandwich the printed paper in between plexi.

Look local, look for a start up Sign Manufacture business, or Print Shop, or Semi Truck Decal place.  Send them an email and usally they would all have big printers that they could easily print anything off for you for a small cost.  I got my Marquee sticker and CPO on vinyl for $25.00 from a local Sign place.

Best option that doesn't get used enough for side art is stencils, you can print them off yourself and tape them together and cut them out and get really great looking side art.

For making making serial number plates at home

Finished: 2 bartops and a cocktail
Not-Finished: 1bartop, 2cocktails, and 2 stand ups.

I printed my marquee at home on a sheet of poster paper on the glossy side. I cut it to the width of a sheet of paper and ran it through in banner mode. Then I sprayed it with a clear coat. I was not disappointed.

Thanks. These are exactly the kinds of outside-the-box thinking I was hoping for.
My intention is not just to give myself some ideas but to get a thread going to spur ideas for others.
the cut poster thing is great!

I just use my local office max. Great price and 9/10 times they print it right there on the spot for me. You'd figure with all the time it takes to build a cab I wouldn't be in a rush for artwork, but I always want things when I want them so having a twenty minute turnaround time is great. I've done the method of printing up sections and piecing them together. Under lexan u can sometimes
Get a way with it.. But for the price it cost to print the real thing, I couldn't imagine printing a marquee in two, and spraying it with gloss and all that.
