New to mame, first build PC questions??
« on: April 11, 2015, 04:50:23 pm »
Hey guys!!

I am building my first mame cabinet and had some requirement questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated, i have built many gaming pc's before but have no idea about mame and it's requirements.

First i will just say the games i am concerned of playing just so you guys can get an idea of what i would need. Most of the games i care about are pre 2000 era.

Mortal kombat 1,2,3
Street fighter 2
DBZ
Tekken 1,2,3
Xmen vs street fighter
Marvel Vs Capcom

Beat em ups from the 90's era, like double dragon and TMNT

And just about all the other classics from the 80's and 90's

Blitz would be nice, but certainly not required.

I have this setup ready to be built but am not sure if it's enough for what i need. I also will be using an LCD monitor for a screen, one with as reduced lag as possible.

I3 4160 CPU 3.6 GHZ and 2 cores intel HD 4600 graphics
4gb ripjaw ram
MSI H81m-p33 MOBO
CX430 power supply
500gb seagate hdd

Thanks so much for any advice!!

Yeah, your current rig is plenty to run most stuff in MAME.  Though I'd recommend a bit more RAM...  can never have too much RAM.

My laptop is a dual core 1.8ghz with 2gb of ram. Tekken 2 has some slow down when it shows the replay, but Tekken 3 runs at maybe 3/4 speed. Everything else plays perfect. Your hardware is probably good enough.

Blitz is too slow for me to play. Maybe 1/2 speed.

Thanks guys

I am trying to build a PC as cheap as possible. I am honestly wondering if it would just be cheaper to just buy one already made. Can get one built with an I3 4160 and all other typical generic Dell,HP, Acer parts for about 250-300. Will cost me about 300 to build one myself using a brand name power supply and motherboard and RAM.

Not sure what to do.

Cheaper better alternative from a member of this site : ($75 for the Basic with 2GB RAM add additional 2GB for $8.

The Basic : This is the same model PC that has been sold before in the promo run.
-   i5 CPU ( model  660 – 3.33 GHz )
-   2GB DDR3 RAM (Upgradeable to 16GB)
-   250GB HDD
-   DVD Drive
-   VGA and DisplayPort out
-   Windows 7 Pro 64-bit pre-installed and activated
-   Shipped with new USB keyboard and mouse, power and network cables.
-   Small Form Factor (SFF) casing.

Seems everyone that has purchased so far has been happy with them and for the price with windows install included can't really be beat !

Throw a dedicated GPU in the mix and you'd definitely be set for what you are wanting (might be fine even without the GPU but a decent GPU would improve things for those higher requirement games.

I just sent him a PM. for 90 bucks you can't go wrong. If it plays my desired games at full speed i am totally sold.

Thanks again brother much appreciated

The pc i was building just seemed like overkill.
