Is this a good idea or bad?
« on: March 26, 2015, 11:40:01 pm »
I've learned to come here for help and continue to get great advice.  :notworthy:

I am starting to laminate some of my pieces. I can't laminate my lower back side piece because I don't know what to do.

Basically I am trying to make an access panel so I can peek inside from time to time to check on the computer. I have checked out the forums and have gotten a few ideas. In my drawing above the air vent is my little access panel. The lower panel is already cut and routed out. I haven't cut out the air vent or cut out the access panel yet.

My idea is to use some hinges on the top (see diagram) and open it from the bottom swinging up.

First is this an ok idea or can y'all (yes I'm from the Texas) suggest a better idea.
Secondly, should I use a specific hinge?

hmm I guess it is a bad idea since no one responded. I started working on it anyways.

I realized right away that you can't make straight 90 corners when you route inside a wood panel. I've heard of people using chisels to fix the corners but that seems pretty hard.

You should open the door down or to the side (tailgate rods and latches from a pickup would work nice) if you want to keep the lock centered like that, If it goes up your going to bang your face on it.
