4 Player Control Panel Layout Question
« on: March 22, 2015, 04:05:33 pm »
Hey guys,

kind of an oversight but I have a stupid question about control panel layout for 4 players. I am referring to the Player 1- 4 player start buttons and matching coin buttons.

Should player 1 be the furthest left button and move to player 2 then 3 then 4 going from left to right across the control panel. like this.....

P1   P2    P3   P4

OR

Should I go

P3    P1   P2    P4

Thanks for any help.

Kevin

Just to back up the already correct answer, imagine how often the cabinet will see just one or two players and then think about how lame it would be to always be playing way off to the side.

I'm doing a 4 player CP as well. I've wondered - has anyone done P4 P1 P2 P3? We all know P1 and P2 should go in the middle because P1 and P2 will be playing the most. Upon reviewing our games list, it looks like we'll have more 3 player games than 4 player games (lots of old capcom games are three players, as wells games like rampage). On those games if we have P1 - 3 in order they'll match the onscreen player slots. Since a 4 player game will probably be the least common occurrence, has anyone ever done P4 P1 P2 P3?

I too want to match the on screen slots.....I think it can be done on a game by game basis in MAME though. Can anyone confirm?

I like the authenticity of matching the slots to the on screen selections......reminds me of popping millions of quarters in TMNT and hearing COWABUNGA!

Well, it is Mame, and Mame is configurable, so it doesn't really matter.

I rock  3 1 2 4 but have to change it in most 3 or 4p games anyway. For instance, NBA jam is set as 1234 to match up to your on screen players. Turtles is set the same way to have the proper order at the top to match the coins.

That's the beauty of it, you can have it any way you like. 3124 will at least ensure every 2p game is set up right without any hassle.

Malenko suggested doing exactly that in this thread.

Also, here's the list he compiled of multi-player games. (3-8 players)
