Need help with Ultrastick360 and Linux
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:50:17 pm »
I have sent this to Andy at Ultimarc but I thought I would put it up here too because of how popular the Raspberry Pi is becoming with classic emulators. Maybe a resident expert could steer me in the right direction.

Considering I have little experience with Linux I think have done my due diligence with trying to get the Ultrastick360 to work with my Raspberry Pi but I am only getting a response on two axis'. (right & down)

This is what I have done:
a) loaded the most recent disk image for RetroPie on the Pi
b) installed LDEX gui and JTEST-GTK gui for joystick testing

With this I can only get the joystick to operate Right & Down on the JTEST program. All the buttons work.

I then proceeded to:

c) download and compile the Katie Snow Ultimarc packages. They successfully built and installed (or at least I think they did). I worked my way through all the errors and dependencies I found along the way

Retested the joystick and same result

This particular stick is one that I have been using on my PC based mame cabinet. It works fine there. I ordered this stick early December. It should have the latest firmware in it. It has the SHIFT function. I pulled it off the PC while it was programmed in a standard 4 way mode.

Can you give me some pointers on resolving this?
As in my previous inquiry with Andy I was concerned that I was going to have to build custom kernels because of similar posts I have seen on the web with other joystick devices. Andy suggested that a custom kernel build would not be necessary.

The Ultimarc site has tons of info for the PC realm but is very lite when it comes to Linux.
