How to mount monitor screen/plexi??
« on: March 02, 2015, 07:57:09 am »
I'm nearly finished with my bartop arcade, but at the moment I just don't have a clue how to mount the monitor plexiglass.
I have it cut to size and it just rests on the control panel, the CP supports, and lies against the monitor front.
I have included a couple of pictures to help visualise what I mean.

How do people normally do this??

Cheers

Are you going to be using a bezel? Or paint a border around plexi? Either way you could use two pieces of wood running vertical the entire length of the glass.when you put in the bezel or paint the plexi you wont see them.on my area 51 cab the wood used is 5/8 x 3/4.heres a few pics to give you an idea.i temporarly taped a marquee to it minus the bezel since i dont have a piece of plexi, the original was really in bad shape.maybe something like this could work for you?

I have aluminum angle covered with a  strip of electrical tape on the sides behind it for support, then J-channel along the bottom to hold it in place.
Gravity does the rest.  There is enough room behind the marquee area to slide it up, swing the bottom in, and lower into the j-channel.

Normally you may have small half inch or so batten on each side for the plexi to sit against and then the bottom of the plexi would tuck under the cp and you can put a small piece of angle aluminum across the top.

This is basically how it's done on a real arcade machine

Here's an example of the angle aluminum MGB speaks of.  The actual bracket (shown in black) is attached to the control panel itself.  Then when you close it, it goes up against the bezel to hold it in place.  The top portion of the plexi is secured by the marquee area.

Alternatively though, you can go the easy route and use velcro.

Fantastic, thanks guys. I'll have a look at the local DIY shops to see what I can find and then piece it all together when I get home.
