Pedestal Video and Power out
« on: February 12, 2015, 02:58:02 pm »
You guys with pedestals, what have you done to address video and power out from your CP?  Does your PC (or components) live in your base instead?

Im looking at DVI and VGA couplers here and here.

Still looking for a power solution that acts like the couplers above.  Rather than hard-wiring something, I just want to plug two cables in on either end.

Suggestions?  Thoughts?  Pics?

Components live in the base.  I've got a wall plate for the video hook up on the back.  Computer cord plugs into an AC socket that's in turn wired up to an internal power strip.  I have an external DPST switch to kill the incoming cabinet power if I'm using the TV for something besides video games.

Any chance you'd post up a pic of the back of your pedestal cab PBJ?  I understand everything you're saying, but visuals are always helpful.

Here you go, sport:

These are nice because they're easy to switch out.  When I got a TV without component inputs, I had to update to HDMI:

+1 on the wall plates.  Just used a vga and audio passthrough and you get a nice clean look.  If there are other ways they're probably more costly and inferior.  It's a simple clean solution.

i never got around to finishing mine up....the power and video cables just run out through a hole in the bottom of the base.  the PC is housed in the base of the cabinet.

I went ahead and did the plates mainly so I could quickly detach everything and move the pedestal across the garage.  Plus I thought it looked a little better than dangling cables.  And it was cheap to do (HDMI wall plate was $1.25 shipped off Ebay).

I went with a VGA wall plate with keystones from Monoprice.  I have two USB, HDMI, and SPDIF keystones.  My power was salvaged out of an old PSU.  I will try and take a picture tonight when I get home.  I decided to put the PC in the control panel.  My design is modular, so the base and CP have nothing holding them together other than pressure from the cleats I created.

I'm really happy how the stain turned out, but I cant see to get a good picture with my iPhone.
