This game uses at least a 4-way joystick (MAME says 8-way but the diagonals don't appear to do anything).

Quote from the wiki : "The player must use a two-way joystick to take up control of a robot (the eponymous "Hopper Robo"), and a single button to make him jump"

Hmmm, the wiki is obviously wrong since you can move left/right/up. That's what you get for not checking your sources  :)

Yeah the wiki is wrong. You also don't "lose some of your energy" when you touch an enemy, you flat out die :P

You can kill enemies by jumping on them, perhaps that costs some energy. Difficult to see though, since the energy is going down constantly anyway.

Soo, after actually having played the game, I found out that you can go down too. Took me only 10 games or so  :banghead:

Boy, I'm beginning to hate this game. The knucklehead who chose this should get bopped on the head.

Anyway, just to post something :

Catchy, bouncy, cute, and not some snooty Tetris Grand Funk Railroad variation.  I'm in.

This may be obvious, but it seems getting the boxes in numerical order awards more points.

Martini not helping.

Kinda fun game, but tough to control.  Meaning, it doesn't move like I think it should.

I played a buncha games in the 20k - 30k range, and almost punched the monitor, but I kept plugging away.  My last photo'd score is 111500, but I've been doing better after.  I'll post what ive got now and try again later.

Finally had some time to play this.   Fun game, once you get a pattern down for the levels.   Like Hanoi, the controls are a bit wonky.   My biggest issue is jumping off springs, sometimes you don't land where you thought you should.

Seems like no one has bothered to do a proper world record then. When googling Hopper Robo, I found this site MARP tournaments. Click on the the link, then on the screenshot and you'll get a high score ranking. The best score there is 564,840, the guy got to round 30.

I'm so smurfing bad at this game.  Well not just bad but like stupidly inconsistent.  I don't want to post until I break 50k, but I literally score like... 3k, 6k, 40k, 4k, 5k, 4k, 42k... like it seems like a crapshoot until I can figure out how to navigate the springs.

Seems if you press a direction the jump does not go up very far - if you just leave no direction pressed it goes full height then once you get high enough press the direction.

459,660 (Round 22)

I'm so done with this game.

The third loop feels much easier than the second. Enemies move faster to your position so it's easier to draw them to the lower floors  in order to climb to the top.
Also, I hate that bug where enemies get pushed on top of you if you jump on them while they are on a spring.
