opinions on this router

 hello everyone,

What are your thoughts on this router for the cabinet building. Tempate with flush trim. And t-molding etc.

It has 2hp and can support both 1/2" & 1/44" collets for mainly the flush trim and t-molding.

It will probably be more than adequate.  I have a Rigid laminate trimmer and it works like a champ.

I replaced my old 1 3/4 HP router with this Skil router.  Cuts through 3/4" MDF like a knife through warm butter...

I'm still looking for that right router!  As I heard the start/stop switch is some where on the body and not very convenient.  I would prefer a switch on the handle so when you let go it will stop.  Or I am trying to find the D handle routers.  Not sure if those are any better or not but I want to find the right one for me before buying. 

I have given the Rigid second thoughts and will hold off on that for now.

Most real routers (good ones, non generics) do not have the on/off switch on the handles (I wanted that too!).  That skil router has a switch in the usual spot (on top) but also has access NEAR the handles.  That's as good as you'll probably be able to do.  An alternative: use a footpedal, like for sewing machines, so it stops when you step off.

That skil router also has a delayed spin up (most good ones have that).  That ensures you can get your hands where you need to before things get... out of hand (pun kind of intended).

Seriously, just get that Skil router.  You won't beat the feature set, and the prices is half what almost every other good router is.  You won't be disappointed.

I have the skil and it rocks. Got it refurbed off amazon. $50.00. Great router. Bits at Harbor Freight.

Bosch Colt, A bit pricey for a small router ($99). Well made,tons of accessories, and easy to handle. Every time I use a full size, I feel like I'm one step from getting maimed. As far as the Skil, my wife bought one for me 2 weeks later the handle broke and I had to take it back. Buy a quality one the first time, you don't have to buy it again and again. Some Skil stuff is okay most is no better than harbor freight crap.Anything Dewalt or Bosch i've bought I never had to buy that tool again. I have a Dewalt circular saw I bought in 1995, still works like new.

I've decided to go with this after much research and going to the stores to get a feel of the handles and the plunge.  I am just waiting for this to go on sale at KMS tools, which is the cheapest I have found!! I once saw it for $270 CAD but right now it is at $300 CAD.

Unless someone knows where I can get it cheaper I will wait for a bit.

I have a lot of patience since I am not in a big hurry for the tool.

I got a Bosch router just last week.  I did have a skil router previously.  The Skil was perfect for just cutting t molding or what not,but I upgraded to the bosch as the adjustability precision on the skil router is just too sloppy.  I was making some cabinet doors and the skil I could never get any precision with it.  hence the upgrade.  Had I gone to home depot I would have gotten the ridgid one you have listed.  They are very similar to my bosch and you can just tell the difference when adjusting the base that the quality is much better..
