Got a couple of games at NJ auction!
« on: December 21, 2003, 10:55:59 pm »
Got a U.N. Squadron game and a NeoGeo cabinet with boards...monitor is broken and said it had no cartridges.  The U.N. Squadron works fine...I was thinking of swapping the monitor into my Pole Position II.  I'm not sure what to do with the NeoGeo cabinet...I was thinking MAME.  Any suggestions?

Neo cabinets are a good choice for Mame, because they already have a game select button, and are really generic.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

BlackKnight - I guess the auction was good?  Got there late, they were packing up the place.  How were the prices?

Prices were unbelievably LOW!!!  Here's some examples, I bought a completely working U.N. Squadron for $85, and a Neo Geo cab with broken monitor and no cartridge for $30...it does power up tho.  My friend bought a Virtua Fighter cab in perfect condition with some helicoptor game in it and a 27" monitor for $275, a Neo Geo game for $100, and another Neo Geo for $175, he also bought a beautiful Star Wars pinball for $925.  There were several cabinets that went for like $5, including a Pole Position II cabinet in good shape!  There was a Star Wars Return of the Jedi that went for $300, Turbo Out Run went for like $125...I think the shifter wasn't working.  A lot of games went for $200-300.  Area 51, and Tekken 4 were a couple of the games that went for like $500-650 or something like that.

Was this the "Super Auctions" auction in Cherry Hill at the NJ National Guard Armory?

I was planning on going but I had prior commitments.

Please tell me there wasn't a full size Smash TV or Mortal Kombat 3 machine there.

I'm planning on going to the USSA auction on January 31.  I think it's at the same place.

Do you think the prices might be comparable to the last auction even though it's held by a different auction company?

I'm looking to buy my first machine.  I'm planning on getting a JAMMA cabinet and either running Multi-JAMMA, MAME, or a combination of both.

I'd be thrilled if I could get something nice for under $400.

I have a question that I hope you might be able to answer.  If not, no problem....

I live just off of Haddonfield Rd. less than 4 miles from the NJ National Guard Armory.  I do not own a truck and I don't know anyone who does.  I'd really rather not have to go through the hassle of renting a U-Haul truck just to move 1 cabinet 5 miles.

Do you think I could get one of the sellers at the auction to deliver a machine to my house for me?  Many of them would probably be going right past my house anyway to get to Philly or I-95.  How about if I paid them?

Yup, that's the auction!  Okay then I won't tell you about the full size Smash TV that went for like $200.  Not sure if there was a Mortal Kombat 3 but there was a Mortal Kombat of some sort there I believe.

I would think you could find someone there to deliver it for you.  We were even thinking of delivering people's games to make some xtra $$$...but the prices were so good we maxed out our U-haul by ourselves!  I wouldn't be surprised if prices were similar being so close after the holidays...but I'm not sure...I think a big factor in the low prices was the fact it was 5 days before Christmas.  My friend and I went there expecting to buy 1 or 2 games at the most between us...not 6!

You could even try enterprise or another car rental.  I have rented a cargo van before for around $40 and that included a day's worth of miles, 150 miles I think.  It would probably be worth it for you.  You could fit a game or maybe two in it.

TRUCK RENTAL SUGGESTION!!!.....

...Home Depot rents their truck for only $19.95 for 2 hours. They're flatbeds....and idea for moving a cab.

That may be the way to do this for you.

I considered doing that for my first cab....but thankfully the guy lived near me and was generous enough to deliver it to me and help me get it up 2 flights of stairs (no monitor but still heavy) for $20 bucks! (yes, he was a very nice man for doing that!).

The MameMaster!
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

ahh, actually i checked it out and you only have to be 18 to rent a U-haul. i just assumed since normal car rentals are 25 in NJ it would be the same. looks like im good to go, ill probably pick up 2 cabs. trying to get a working fighting game so the buttons are all there that i want, and then convert that to mame. and then i need an empty cab of anything really to make into beatmania/ddr machine

A cheaper option which is what we do, is if you have a trailer hitch or can borrow a vehicle with a hitch...you can get a Uhaul trailer for like $30 and there's no mileage charge.  We got 5 arcades and 1 pinball machine in an open trailer and had room for 1 more acrade machine.

WHEW!!!  I just checked out the auction data that was posted on BasementArcade.com...
http://www.basementarcade.com/arcade/auction/a70/Data.html

It turns out that the Smash TV machine that sold was a 19" inch model.  Now I don't have to kill myself.  If it was a 25" model, then I'd be bleeding on the floor right now.
