Sega Astro City Diagram
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:27:22 am »
I'm wiring up a kick harness using DB9 Connectors. I'm looking for an Astro City wiring diagram so I can see what the 10pin molex connector wires are typically used for. It may not matter as I'll just use the DB9 connections I made although I want to keep everything consistent.

The sw information is from the Naomi cabinet layout.

Cheers.

There is a manual [here] for the New Astro City which is identical in regards to controls wiring. There is a wiring diagram in the manual but off the top of my head the pinout for the 10 pin AMP UP connector used for the extra inputs is:

1) P1 --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type--
2) P1 B5
3) P1 B6
4) P1 GND
5) P2 --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type--
6) P2 B5
7) P2 B6
8) P2 GND

The ten pin female AMP UP receptacle is just an extension to the matching connector in the base. It's used to connect the extra non JAMMA buttons of various systems to the controls. Buttons 4 and 5 from that connector are not connected to the JAMMA edge so it's a good idea to link them up if using systems that use/support 4 or 5 buttons from the JAMMA edge.

Thanks @Franco B,

That makes sense, although opens up another round of questions.

The default Astro City 1P/2P 12-Pin Molex connector is only wired up for 3 buttons. (SW 1 to 3 for 1P and 2P)

1) Should I wire the JAMMA edge connectors (25 - 1P SW4, c - 2P SW4, 26 - 1P SW 5, D - 2P SW5) to the 1P & 2P Molex connectors?
2) If I do the above I will need to also wire up the same buttons on the kick harness (SW 4 & 5). Will this cause any interference? Should I use diodes? Is there a better JAMMA harness I should look at?
3) Whats the best solution? I do have a SNK 4 buttom JAMMA board, so wiring 1P/2P SW 4 makes sense.
4) Does any game board use the 10-pin Molex connector directly from the astro city?

CPS 2 / Naomi Kick-Harness Pins
09 P2 Heavy Kick
15 P1 Heavy Kick
17 P1 Medium Kick
19 P1 Light Kick
21 P2 Light Kick
23 P2 Medium Kick
33 P2 Ground
34 P2 Ground

OK. What a confusing post that must of been. Sorry guys.

I went back to the cabinet and looked at all the wiring and answered my own questions from doing this. Here is a reference for anyone else with an Sega Astro City Cabinet.

So I've made some progress and after speaking to @Franco B, I will wire up buttons 4,5,6 to the kick harness. Buttons 4,5 will be daisy chained although this will have no impact my CPS-2 games.

I need to test the setup with the J-Pac as well.
