Third Strike Audio Issue
« on: January 25, 2015, 05:59:00 pm »
I just picked up a Street Fighter 3: Third Strike cabinet last week and the only known issue at time of purchase was the audio.  It cuts out part ways during gameplay, but seems to always work in the demo screen.  The seller seemed to think it was due to a loose wire.  I haven't had a chance to look inside yet and before I do I will need get through the lock on the back (don't have the key).  The cabinet is a converted Williams' Smash TV.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

missing sounds is often a symptom of a bad connection to the sound chips.

carefully pull out the chips and re-insert them. resist the temptation to try and clean them with anything, as static will KILL them dead.

if the slots are especially dusty blow them out with some air.

also check the audio amp. its the one attached to the heatsink by the RCA connectors. if it's running hot, you may have a speaker wiring problem or failed capacitors feeding power to it.

you can also have dead or corrupted ROM chip.

can you test the boards in another cab?

that'll help you figure out if its boards or wiring.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I first need to drill through the lock on the back of the cabinet.  I have another JAMMA cabinet that I can test the game with.   Does anyone think this solution could be useful? http://forums.arcade-museum.com/archive/index.php/t-103023.html
