CHD Question
« on: January 24, 2015, 02:07:56 pm »
Ok,  I recently acquired Need For Speed Underground INSTALL DISC CHD files... there are two... as there are two Install Discs.   I am fully aware how to uncompress CHD's to a hard drive,  however these are different in that they are CHD's of Compact Disc files (I can only assume ISO files?).   How do I uncompress the CHD's to a hard drive (which I assume would then convert to ISO files) so I can then burn to CD?

I found this over at the klov forum. It may be of help.

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=27020&page=2

Quote
go to mame in your command prompt (start/run/cmd in windows)

Browse to your mame dir and run that command

c:\mame>chdman -extractcd simpsbowl.chd simpsons.toc simpsons.bin

This will create 2 files, a bin and TOC. The TOC files tells the cd burning program CDRDAO where the file is located, and then will burn the disc.

The conversion tool mentioned will convert the TOC to a CUE file, which is more standard, and should be able to be burned with multiple CD burning applications.

I'm right there with you trying that command but it's not working... :(

I wonder what version of CHDMAN I need to try to use...

Ok.. the latest version of CHDMAN I can find is dated in 2012.   I use the following command:

CHDMAN extractcd -i nfsug1.chd -o nfsug1.bin

I get: "unknown compression type" error.

Is there a newer version of CHDMAN?  Do you thing NFSUG install disc was compressed with an older version?   Help!

:D

Thanks!

Ok.. nevermind... I found a later version (.146 instead of .145b3)...

And the command listed above is incorrect... you have to include -i (input) flag and -o (output) flag.

Thanks!

Read this too: http://www.thekillerinstinctproject.com/kiproject/chdman.html

Doesn't chdman come with mame binary release? I can't verify. Not at home.

This is really becoming a substantial pain in the ass ...

OK,  I decompress CHD to .bin files... IMGBURN recognizes the files and burns but I get errors on verify each time at the same spot.   OK ... so I download CDRDAO and TRY to install it... but,  uh,  how?  There are no executable files?!?

I check imgburn and it's writing in DAO mode...  and like I said,  it burned fine but verify finds errors... all 3x I tried (3 discs).  Same errors at same locations.

Obviously either (A) the verify is coming up with false positives or (B) I can't use imgburn.

Any suggestions?

I can confirm FREEBURN works.  NFS Underground v1.1 is up and running.
