Marquee light: LED worth it?
« on: January 18, 2015, 06:58:56 am »
I have a fluorescent light fixture behind the marquee, and I know that others use strips of white LED lights.  I was at a local automotive shop the other day and saw a 24" white LED strip for $25 (one of those that is are bendable and can be cut to size).  I didn't know they were so 'cheap'!!

Anyhow, I was wondering if it's worth it for me to upgrade to LED?  Is there a huge noticeable difference?

Thanks

You can get 15' of RGB LED strips off ebay for cheaper than that 2' strip.

I've had a $10 Home Depot fluorescent light behind mine since 2002.  Works fine and I don't see the need to replace it. :dunno

a 5m LED strip is $5 or so right now with free ePacket shipping. Everything I've ordered through this service has arrived in 15 days or less.

18" soft white LED strip, $7 delivered.  Seems to me it got to me in a couple days too, it was fast.

I think one of the best arguments for the LEDs in  a MAMEcab is that you don't need an additional power source. Pull 12v from a molex and you're good to go.
