Removal of Crimps attached to Joystick/Buttons
« on: January 13, 2015, 02:24:34 pm »
Hi Guys,

Very quick question. Is there anyway to remove crimps from Joysticks/Button once in place.

It's just I the PCB which I bought in a bundle pack does not work and have purchased and I-Pac 2 to replace it.

Many Thanks in advance for your advice.

Do you have pics?  Are they soldered on?  Are there red/blue plastic pieces around them (trying to describe the quick disconnects)

Hi Generic Eric.

Thanks for the reply. I have added some pictures to show the crimps. They are not soldered on but cannot find any quick release plastic bits round them. I tried pulling off with pliers and snapped one of the buttons.

Those ones on the joystick should pull off.  You may need to wiggle on them.  On the button, not so sure.  The shrink wrap gets in the way of giving you an opinion.

They should just pull off though.  I don't have any of those blue buttons.  I have the style that use the switch as seen on your joystick.

Give 'er hell and replace what you break! ;)  Just make sure no one is behind your elbow when you are pulling, lest they be given the hell you were giving the button.

To be honest, I've hand some stick, just takes some effort.  Or, they are soldered and you just can't see it.  If you are going to do a lot of pulling, you may weaken the existing crimps and have connectivity problems later.

Sometimes you can use a properly-sized flat-blade screwdriver to start pushing the crimp off the tab.

Take needle nose pliers and pull out on the metal tabs (not the wire) firmly. They will come off easy.

Thanks for all your advice guys.

The screwdriver trick worked a dream (PL1). Had to take the gate off (which is a pain) but got there in the end :)

Thank you so much :)
