FS: Interest - Nintendo VS cabinet
« on: January 06, 2015, 06:15:36 pm »
So my buddy has a Nintendo VS cabinet that needs a lot of love.  There's a nice bubble bobble original board in there right now (that he might sell separately!) but the project is at a standstill for him.  He'd like to gauge interest on value and/or sell it to the right buyer.  I'll let the pictures do some talking:

Bubble Bobble running on the right side. No board on the left:

Decent control panels.  Seems like 95% original hardware with original leaf buttons:

Original glass still on the marquee:

I don't know enough about the monitors to verify their origin but they need some work. The right screen has color issues and some rolling problems at the bottom. Left screen powers on and shows diagonal lines but I didn't connect anything to it to verify signal integrity:

Internal wiring was mucked about and patched into the Bubble Bobble board but is about 80% + present.  Left side of cabinet has a crack in the particle wood. Coin mechs are in good working condition and just need TLC.

Anyway let me know what you guys might think this thing is worth or if it's worth anyone's time to restore!  Thanks!

FYI, an original Bubble Bobble board goes for about $300 USD these days. If I were your buddy, I'd pull that board out, check if it's an original (boots are worth much much less)...and sell the cab separately to someone who'd be interested in restoring it. The cab itself, in the shape it's in wouldn't fetch more than $100 I'm afraid.  There's A LOT of work there.

Houston TX. The cabinet in on the southeast side of town, near Baytown.

It looked original.  I should have taken a picture! It was a dual layer board that had a Taito emblem on it so I don't think it was a boot.  Selling the board and cabinet separately was my first suggestion to him since those cabinets normally came with the 'VS' games.  You're right though - it's a ton of work for sure.  I'd hate to see the thing rot away or just get parted out since they're such cool pieces of history.
