  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi all,

I have nearly constructed my first Bar Top (will put pictures up on a project post) and am hoping to run Retropie.

The problem is when I plug in the Zero Delay USB Encoder to the Pi it is not picking it up in Emulation Station or the Retroarch Joystick Setup.

I tried plugging into my Windows 7 pc but just comes up USB Device not recognised.

The LED button do light up when pressed so power is getting to the device.

Below is pictures of the encoder.

Sorry for my first post on the board  being an asking for help/advice message but after spending 12 hours looking for answers online I had to cave in and ask for help.

Many Thanks in advance

Toss it and go buy a KADE. You'll be happier in the long run.

+1 for yotsuya.  I use Kades now. No more off shore stuff.  You cannot get anything fixed and it costs more than you spent on the zero delay to mail it back to them.

Yep. The first time I tried it, it made me a believer. No more joystick encoders or keyboard hacks for me.

Why Kade instead of an I-Pac from Ultimarc?

I would assume that since it's a bartop, it's just got controls for one player. Here's my suggested encoder breakdown (based on my experience - I'm not saying they're the best or only options, but they're the ones that work for me):

1 P Only: KADE1 P with LED: GP + LEDWiz
2 P: I-Pac 2
2 P w LED: I-PAC 2 & LEDWiz
4 P: I-Pac 4
4 P w LED: I-Pac Ultimate

Because you can get a Kade for about $10 if you look around enough.  It is a low cost high tech alternative.

I missed the bar top comment.  My bad.

I was reading Kade's website and it basically amounted to "It does stuff!  Its the best!  buy it!" (total lack of meaningful information) - so I wasn't sure why it was better or worse than an IPac.

I used an I-Pac 2 in my first cabinet.  I'm using PS360+ (2) in my next build, due to wanting xinput compatible controls for the windows based games.  (although Ultimarc is adding this to the ipac's this year....  lol)

Best place for info on the Kade is the Kade forum.

+1 for Jdfan.  I did all my work and testing of the Kade with the Kade Loader Program.  I customizes the Kade for your application.

One nice thing about the KADE (or minimus AVR if you don't mind a bit of soldering) is the KADE Loader that offers several firmware options to change the outputs. IE. here's a screen of the options for the Minimus AVR firmware. ( Just plug the stick in your computer run the loader and a few seconds later you can change the way it works )

I am making a two player LED Bartop. I have attached some pictures as that show better than I can describe.

Would an I-Pac2 be better then seeing its 2 player? Sorry I'm all new to this.

That looks cool.  Is it X-Input compatible?  Or just DirectX gamepad support?

I searched your forum for "xinput" and "x-input" and got zero hits, so I'm guessing its DirectX only?   Which means it'll have issues with most Steam games (but it'll work fine with emulators)

Yeah, go with an I-Pac 2 for the controls, then.
