Please! Need Help with Rowe Ami R90
« on: December 22, 2014, 01:29:41 pm »
Hi everybody.
I am new to the forum... just found it yesterday!

I have been keeping my much loved R90 going for the last 15 years using the manual copy I got from Victory Glass.

I now have a problem that i cannot figure out, and the manual seems to be no help.

Every time I start up the jukebox, the dollar bill mechanism makes a horrible noise, and it happens a number of times during play and seems also to initiate error codes (23 & 30).

I always keep the box on free play, so I am hoping that I can simply disconnect the unit (seems like simply pulling 4 connections).

But, I am afraid to do it. What should I do with the loose wires? Will there be an error code/codes that are generated because I do this?

I hope someone has done this and made it work.

Look forward to getting to know the folks on this chat.

Thanks

Error 23: Keyboard RESET switch stuck closed.

Error 30: Skipped index pulse from magazine optical switch. Could be any of these causing it:
Check for dirty magazine gear.
Replace optical switch.
Adjust mech control index "I" trimpot.

As to the bill acceptor problem, I believe this model had the Rowe/Coinco model "CBA" bill acceptor. If it's making noise then it requires service/rebuilding. The CBA can be repaired by most bill acceptor repair companies like Capital Vending, but can no longer be updated for new currency. Sure it can still take dollar bills, but no updates for $5 any more. With the jukebox unplugged from the wall outlet, you can now simply unplug the 6 pin cable going to the bill acceptor. Now plug the jukebox back in and you can use the jukebox as normal, but without the use of the bill acceptor.

Average repair cost for a CBA bill acceptor is around $100. Bruce Wentworth of A & B Jukebox Repair does the bill acceptors:

Thank-you Ken!
I really do not need the bill acceptor.
I will look up the other fixes and give a try.
