original xbox controller on pc
« on: December 21, 2014, 10:44:37 am »
Has anyone here connected an original xbox controller to a pc? If I get an adapter to do so will it work the same as a 360 controller or will it show up as something else?  Like if I wanted to play a game such as skyrim that only supports 360 controllers would this work? Or would I need a 3rd party program to make it think it is a 360 controller?

Rather than buy an adapter, why not just get a cheap 360 controller off eBay?  :dunno

But seriously.  Why not one of those surprisingly good encoders

You can map one as an xbox 360 pad with various drivers.  It's a pain in the ass all around.

Original Xbox controller is just a proprietary USB connector.

you can get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Controller-PC-USB-Adapter-Cable/dp/B000RT2868
But those sellers annoy me with their stupid high shipping.

or if you are handy you can just solder a usb cable end onto it.

Thanks I was just wondering. Because I could get an adapter for 4 dollars on ebay. But if its going to be just as annoying as using my Ps3 controllers I will pass and just get 360. And I don't want to go with a kade for this because it's for a console pc project. (Coming soon)

Keep in mind:  The PC drivers for the original Xbox controllers only work with windows XP 32-bit.  Due to driver signing issues with Windows 7, it's not an easy feat.  Almost impossible without some coding.

Just wanted to make you aware...  I've researched this and ended up grabbing this Xbox One controller for $39.99 on Black Friday at BestBuy.com.  Works great with OFFICIAL drivers from Microsoft in Windows 7 64-bit.  But although it's wireless, it only works with a PC if it's plugged in via USB.  (For now).

I, at one point, managed to get original Xbox controllers working in Windows 8 but it required so much driver modification I can't remember how I did it.  And now my Windows 8 machine won't touch a Kade encoder.

 :lol

So, don't do it.  Ain't worth it.

I haven't even considered an xbox one controller. That would be better. It's the most comfortable controller I've held. (And I'm a playstation guy)

I never cared for the original XBOX controller because it felt like I was holding a potato.  I agree with you that the XB1 controller is great.  I hate the PS4 controller with it's super bright LED light.
