Mala not seeing some roms
« on: December 08, 2014, 12:46:31 am »
I'm very sorry if this is answered somewhere, I've looked and not finding a solution.  I have some mame rooms that work in mame 64 but just aren't listed in mala.  I've played with filters and other settings but can't figure it out.  Regenerated the all games list many times but still not showing up.

Is there a way to force a rom to show up?  Other ideas?

I'm just getting my old cabinet working again so everything is the latest version, mala and mame.

Specifically, which games aren't showing up.

If they're games that were added since the older version of MAME that was on there before,
did Mala generate a new xml for the new version of MAME, or is it still using the old one?

Are some of the roms in 7zip format?  Only the newest beta version of Mala (v1.82) can see 7zip files.

Is Mala looking at the same folder as MAME64 was, or are you trying to copy over individual roms?
There may be separate bios roms or sound board roms that also need copied over.

Thanks, stuff like joust, space invaders, ms paceman...classics. The Roms were all there from day one.  How do I force regenerate the xml file? Assuming that's what needs to happen.

I'm honestly surprised these games aren't listed in the 6k plus that mala lists as all games.

With the older games not showing up, I think something more than the xml not being up to date is going on.
There are probably a half dozen relevant details we're not getting.
Can you post a screen grab of your rom settings in Mala?

delete mame.xml from the mame folder

Next time Mala is launched, it will ask you to regenerate it.

Refresh the all games list.

It might not ask to regenerate it until you refresh the list.  I don't remember exactly.
Mala may appear frozen because it takes so long to generate the xml, but just give it time.

if you back click on the emulator layout page (the page with your games list in mala) you'll find the option to update your games list. If it's still not on the list, there's a good chance that the roms you are using aren't recognized by the version of mame you are using. mame32 is a really good one to use and it recognizes most of my older roms. but i have the most recent version on mame for use with some games mame32 doesn't recognize (any of the 2 player simpsons roms i have for example- which are in my roms folder, but will not show up on the mala page because mame32 doesn't recognize them). basically, log into mame without using mala, if the game is in the list and plays it should show up on the mala games list if you refresh it.

Thanks guys.  Sorry for the delayed response. I did get it to work by having mala regenerate the xml list.   Although I am having trouble with the Simpsons so maybe I'll try using mame 32 but I have what I really wanted working now.  Thanks for the help.
