Want to integrate MAME setup into Jamma cab. Best option?
« on: November 23, 2014, 11:29:05 pm »
I'm new to this forum although I have built a bartop cab in the past. I've read through the FAQ but I need an opinion based on my specific situation.

Little backstory

in 2012 I built a bartop arcade running off of a PC that ran Hyperspin as a front end and MAME 1.36 (i think) and a bunch of other older consoles like NES and SNES. I used an iPac2 as an encoder. It was a very small project.

This is what it looked like with the help of a very smart friend

A few days ago, I bought an OK Baby cabinet for $40. It was a working cab with a JAMMA setup and it was running the game "Psychic Force". As a sitdown cab has always been something I wanted, I was thinking of transferring my PC from my bartop, into this OK Baby Cab.

here are pics of the cab: http://gundamsd671.tumblr.com/post/103191177701/i-bought-this-ok-baby-cab-today-for-40-it-has

Now here is where I'm confused.

The OK BAby cab already has a JAMMA setup, so I'm assuming I want to buy a JPAC to use as the encoder. What I don't understand is how to hook up the monitor to my PC? I could buy a video card from Ultimarc that is compatible with 15 khz monitors Or should I buy a VGA to CGA converter?

Lastly, how on earth do I plug the monitor into this video card or adapter? Like I don't see anything that looks like a classic VGA or RGB out.

Additionally, this means I have a spare iPac2 around. Does the iPac2 offer something that I can't get from using a JPac? Keep in mind my emulation needs are both arcade games and consoles.

Thanks for your help,

$40 for a candy cab, what a steal!

Look into the arcadevga product. http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainf.html

Get an AMD HD4000 series card (50 bucks or less), a J-PAC, and use GroovyMAME.

Head to the GroovyMAME forums. It's objectively the best solution for that kind of setup.
