Help w/HAPP Flightstick modification

The controls in my CP are fairly close together. I have a place for my flight stick but there's limited room. I recently got the Happ heavy duty Flight Stick but the black mounting plate (4" by 5") is making it impossible to fit it where I want it. 
I believe I could cut it down with a jigsaw but I'm not sure that it's even removable - I haven't tried yet, wanted others opinions first before taking it apart.
I could live with it being 3 1/2" square but it would be even better if I could make it the same size as the silver plate that is attached directly to it, 3" square and then drill new mounting holes accordingly.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions and if that black mounting plate is removable.

Yes, thanks, I did read through that. And thanks to Bender for that helpful thread.

I went ahead and took it apart and I believe I can reassemble it and simply ditch the black mounting plate. I'm off to the hardware store to get mounting screws that will fit the silver posts on the underside of the flight stick. I'll simply mount it with those, problem solved!

Guess I figured it out on my own and this thread was unnecessary but as the project goes, I'll post a pic or two so that this may help others with limited control space in the future.
