AMD Display Driver Error
« on: November 19, 2014, 06:40:12 pm »
Hey Calamity, another day another problem!
I think I'm close to giving up.

I hooked up my groovymame pc to my arcade crt tonight. Groovymame kept hanging or if I was on Windies desktop it flashed for a second.
This kept happening regularly , every 20 seconds at least

When on desktop I got a Windows error every time the screen flashed and I presume it I'd also the cause of groovymame hanging.

AMD display driver stopped responding and has recovered.

Any pointers on where to begin to resolving?

Do you have the DXVA disabled as explained here? http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=379#p379

Yeah, I did that a while back but I'll double check that's it's disabled again.

When I rebooted the pc I only used groovymame through the command line not Hyperspin.
Same issue. Plus it was happening on the desktop before I launched anything.

I do have a suspicion on some dodgy ram so I'll try check that too. Don't know if related or not.

I was afraid of that, just wanted to be sure.

IIRC you have an HD 4890. That's a monster card and it's causing other issues to some users. From now on I'm going to be advising against the HD 48xx cards.

It would be nice that everyone had a cheap and safe HD 4350 as a second card to plug it in in cases like this and be able to make sure it's not the video card.

Right, so you think it's the gfx card?

That's interesting as I've been testing the setup on my LCD monitor until yesterday and I never had that issue.

Only when I connected to the crt last night did the problem begin.

So when we talked the other day about the -frame_delay option you were actually using an LCD?

Anyway, I'm not saying it's the card. Just wondering. Several users reported detection issues lately for their 48xx cards, probably unrelated but...
