Slagcoin templates
« on: November 15, 2014, 03:51:50 pm »
Does anyone know which PPI will translate perfectly to the dimensions of a real build?  I'd like to print one to these out for template purposes but can't seem to find the right proportions.

Have you tried to print it using MS Paint?

If it's smaller than a sheet of paper less your margins, ms paint is still capable of printing actual size.
Make sure the dpi is correct and select "Adjust to 100% actual size" under print options.

I just printed one out then compared it to a 1-1/8" hole.  Then increased the size of the print, compared again.  Took like 2 tries to get close enough.  Either that or just paste the image into your graphic program and compare it against the in-program rulers and stretch till it is correct.

Oh, the memories!
I thought I hit the bullseye with slagcoin until I had to print.   You'll figure it out.   The advice is sound.  You are not alone.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have this question!

This hobby has been around long enough it's a very rare question that hasn't been asked and answered at some point.  If you can't find your answers through google, be sure to check the wiki here as well.  If all else fails, ask in the forums.  Some of us can be shitheads at times, but more than likely, the answer will surface.

There's nothing wrong with shitheads - it keeps things interesting as long as there's humor thrown in along the way.  Once in a while they might even be right!   :dunno

Easiest way to check the size as long as you know the DPI your using multiply that by the size hole you need and set your brush to that many pixels and it should match the size on the layout -- ie. if using 72 DPI for the template set the brush size to 72 x 1.125 (1/8 = 0.125) = 81 pixels so set the brush to a circular brush 81 Pixels in size and you can then just press the mouse button once where wanted and it draws a 1 1/8 inch circle.

If using 300 DPI same goes 300x1.125 = 337.5 round up to 338 and set your brush to 338 pixels to draw a 1 1/8 inch hole marker. Then print to 100% size by making sure scaling is turned off in the print menu.

Hope that helps !

This link has a pdf of a control panel that's to scale and I'm sure you could print and use the bits you need.   Acrobat does tile printing.

You need to understand what PPI/DPI is. Download the correct PPI to match the DPI of your printer setting and it should be to scale, assuming you also have it set to print the image at its native size. Wikipedia that stuff for a more full explanation. I typed a ton and Safari on my iPhone crashed.
