What cable to use for wiring?
« on: December 15, 2003, 02:59:25 pm »
Hey guys.

I used 2 DB 25 serial cables to wire up my control panel.  I used one cable strictly for player 1 side, then used a second cable for the player two side.  I just thought it was more uniform that way.

It works great, but I'm wondering if I could have done something better.  What is the largest cable I could have used, in terms of inputs?  Do they have any 50 wire cables?  Another small problem I had with my serial cables was how small the wires were.  They were hard to get into the encoder and the quick disconnects were a pain too, because of the smallness of the wires.  So in terms of using serial cables for your wiring, what did you guys do or use?

This is just a guess I don't know how many wires are in one, but I bet a SCSI cable would have lots and lots of pins.

I just used Molex plugs and bundled standard spool wire together with plastic wire ties.  It worked pretty nicely.  (at least, it's all detachable, re-crimpable and reconfigurable w/o any soldering.  Though soldering would have been faster.)
